What a performance from Town today. Like many others I went to DP today expecting it to be avery close game after Thunders game last week against Sheffield. How wrong we were. Town did a very professional job in winning 82 - nil with every player the man of the match.

I heard John Walsh say on the radio on the way home "a very poor Gateshead team" but that was taking away from Town how good they were. Town scored several tries from 50 - 60 yards out with lovely flowing rugby and they would have scored tries against several teams with this sort of game.

Mattinson was the leader of the pack today and had a good game but I would like to give some praise to lads who don't usually get the accolades, lads like young Bainbridge who I thought had an excellent game. Kris Cowards was immense against some very big Thunder forwards as was Shackley when he was on and those two with strong runs made a lovely try for Elliot Miller. Everyone defended very well and Gateshead spent just as much time in Towns half as we did in theirs. John Patrick was another who had a very good game on his debut.

Thunder looked quite lively at times but just lacked a cutting edge and a bit more bottle in defence. I heard someon had sent a message in to Radio Cumbria saying Town think they are a big team once again and only get 350 crowd. Well, if that was the crowd today then I would be demanding a recount. Several of us were estimating around the 600 - 650 mark based on years of standing in 400 - 500 crowds.

I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

And yet incredibly we still had 2 old blokes stood next to us whinging and moaning during the game, only to leave about 25 minutes to go because they hate seeing teams lose like that. Considering the past several years I cant believe any Town fan wouldnt have enjoyed watching us today, yet still some moan. Unbelievable.

Haven fans are now thinking they are world-beaters cos they managed a draw against Sheffield.... a team that struggled to beat Gateshead last week!!!

Well done Town.... keep it up!!!

I don't expect us to beat the Huns next week..... just hope we can give them a scare!!!

A great team performance , everybody was willing in supporting in attack and as importantly the defence on our own line was fantastic. Obviously the opposition were poor on the day but we did a clinical job on them.

Last week we played the percentages and this week played great flowing rugby... the signs are good , keep it up lads.

Sadly it did look a small crowd to me but if Town keep playing like that it can only rise surely ? I've not seen as much skill, confidence and pace as that for a long time in a Town team and they really looked looked as if they were enjoying it with time on the ball and some lovely tries which would test a lot of teams; I'm looking forward to a few more "surprises" before the seasons out. Thoroughly enjoyable team performance.

If you can get another win and I know it won't be easy, your through to the quarters. As a Rams fan I would love to see you guys challenging for the Championship 1 title. Youv'e had too long in the shadows of Barra and Haven. Hope the good form continues.
