Did Hesketh not play for any reason other than being rested? I thought Byron was our MOM today by a street!!

Agreed - Byron was outstanding (again). He hasn't had a bad game yet this year.I think defensively we have been sound enough, and in the second half I think Hunslet could have played all night and not scored. However, I am a little concerned that we are chopping and changing a bit too much to get settled. I think that Mennel, is better coming off the bench, we began to look dangerous only when Moore came on. I know the conditions were awful but we made so many mistakes this afternoon, and Campbell really needs to get up to speed quickly as he did not look up to it today.

As someone said when we were leaving never has a victory felt so hollow.
Agree with comments about Byron Smith, he was awesome in the 2nd half. Manning worked hard as well.

Perhaps the runout against Gaeshead next week will boost the confidence and spring us into the must win game at Fax. How much is the weather affecting us as a team?
The weather is effecting us the same as every other team. No excuses.

Great to see Campbell back in the side yesterday, even if he didn't make a great impression. Manning, Reittie and Smith were stand-outs.
On another note, isn't the SLS is a truly horrible, soulless desolate place to watch Rugby League. Before anyone jumps down my throat, this obviously isn't the fault of the Hunslet club, but the responsibility of Leeds council for failing to make ANY improvements to the stadium in the 15 years since it opened.

... when are we gonna start playing some rugby?
Soon, I hope, Chairman.
I hate to say it, but I enjoyed the first 30 minutes of the England/Italy Rugby Union game more than the whole of the game vs Hunslet.
We seemed to play better (well, less bad) with Mennell, Moore & Handforth all on together. Don't know if that's the way forward?

drives we are doing, it's the most basic rugby to defend no one is slipping
the ball out in the tackle hence our sets of six are over in a minute. What has
happened to the rugby we were playing in the friendlies? One things for sure if
we turn up at Halifax and play like this they will take us to the cleaners. No more
than 3 forward drives then spread the ball about and give the opposition something
to think about.

Maybe your not quite panicking Tom but i'm alarmed at the amount of one man

Got to agree with that Rodders, we do need to show a lot more invention in the coming games. I seem to remember us slipping into a similarly negative pattern of play shortly after the end of the Northern Rail group games last season, when we looked pretty pedestrian. We just don't seem to be able to play to our potential when its raining or the pitch is less than firm. As a fellow supporter said to me yesterday, we can't afford to fall back on the 'we'll pick up when the pitches dry out' excuse - what if we have a bad spring/early summer?
Hopefully we can get a good amount of points on the board against Gateshead next week, put some better rugby together, and go to Halifax with a bit more confidence in attack.
