Very Sad News

It's with deepest sadness that I write this post, I regret to tell you that my step-dad (username GoldCard) has passed away suddenly last night. I know how much everyone here meant to him and he had lots of friends here and had been posting here for many years. After having to inform people in real life, it suddenly dawned on us that all of his friends here wouldn't have any other way of knowing what had happened unless one of us could register and post here and we felt that he would have liked us to let everyone know. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forum (not that you are likely to have such a section for this news). We will be checking this thread if and when we can as I know it will bring a lot of comfort to my mother to hear from anyone who knew and was friends with Bill on here, I know he came on and posted most nights. I don't really know much else to say, we are still in shock, he was only 50 years old.
Any comments are appreciated just to know that there are people on here who knew and loved him as we did here.
Thankyou, Judy x (step-daughter of GoldCard)

secondly this is the most distressing of news,Goldcard was a lovely guy and very popular with everyone on here.
It isn't for me to speak for everyone on here, but my heart really does go out to you and your family, and you know where we are.

I never met him, but just going on what he posted on here he was genuinely one of the most interesting, knowledgeble posters on here. Even if I didn't agree with his posts, it was never hard to see where he was coming from. It may seem trivial at this moment in time, but I'm greatful he kept things like the Stupid Questions League going, when it looked like it was going down the pan - that's always been one of the most enjoyable aspects of the forum for me.
Thank you for letting us know at what must be a dreadful time for you.
RIP Goldcard, mate

Never met the guy, but his posts added greatly to the community on here. He seemed happy with starting his new job. We will miss the news on Duckville.

He was a great bloke with a great sense of humour and a real love of his rugby, he will certainly be missed on here and I am sure he will not be forgotten.
We were lucky enough to meet him face to face and have a beer and a laugh with him.
Thanks Judy for letting us all know, it must be a heartbreaking thing to have had to do. You have our deepest sympathy.
R.I.P Goldcard.

RIP Big fella and to the family.....many many condolences
I, just like those Castleford supporters felt that the ball should have gone to David Plange but he put the bit betwen his teeth...and it was a try
Kevin Ward - best player I have ever seen
The real Mick Gledhill is what you see on here, a Bradford fan ........, but deep down knows that Bradford are just not good enough to challenge the likes of Leeds & St Helens.

I never met Bill, but we had a few pms (personal message chats)as well as the public threads/posts. He returned to the board a while back, and I recall how well he was welcomed back by all those who knew him from the years he had posted previously. As you can imagine, there are people from all types of backgrounds, beliefs, places etc etc and some you get along with, some you don't, some you hardly notice, some you really respect etc
I really respected Bill. Always came across as good humoured, friendly, a great RL fan and all round genuine good bloke. I wish I had met him.

It is easy to say this but Goldcard was one of my favourite posters and felt is pain when he stated he had personal issues and felt he was amongst friends here.
I hope he has found peace.
My thoughts are with you and your family Judy,
RIP

He was a top bloke - strange how this is just an internet forum and unlike some people on here I never met him, but Bill posted in such a familiar and honest way that you felt like you knew him as a friend.
I know he was missed on here for some time and only reappeared recently, posting regularly and seemingly delighted to be back in the land of the Wire. Such a shame he's gone.
The rugby league family has lost another good man.
RIP
