Once upon a time we could see the highlights from matches on the News and Star website but these have dried up for some reason or other.
More and more clubs are setting up on their websites club TV's where they show anywhere between 5 to 10 minutes of highlights of their matches home and away. I can visit many other clubs and view the highlights of their matches but not our own.
Is this something we could look at as I think it would be most welcome by the fans. Could the company who videos our games provide this service (Pro-Cam?). On the York website they have a contract with a video company for this and they sell DVD's of each match at £6 each or if you pay £100 you can have a DVD of every match during the season (around 25 matches).
I would loved to have watched some of our tries from Sunday again, plus it lets other teams see the type of RL we are capable of producing.
What's everyone think?

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Would be a good idea, if PRO CAM are doing every home game, they could make a bit if they charged a very reasonable fee such as £6. The cost of burning onto DVD's must be minimal.
While yes News and Star highlights used to be good.
Noticed on some of local football team websites round here that fans record highlights on little recorder and then put them on to website via You Tube.
Hopefully someone may want to push the idea forward.

Not 100% sure but I think I'm right in saying that match DVDs have always been available. I'm sure that if you contact the club they will point you in the right direction

The point is pensioner, we shouldn't be saying "if you contact the club they will point you in the right direction" there should be something on our website or/and in the press, etc, to say these are available to buy and at a reasonable price like York's at £6 per DVD not £10 - £12 each. If it is Pro-Cam that do the videos, have we ever asked them about setting up a 5 - 10 minute highlights on the Town's own website to advertise them and sell the full DVD's at a price that will attract buyers. I'm sure there would be something of a small profit in it for them!!!!

My point Keith, is that perhaps people should ask if a product is available before they assume it's not. It's very easy to make a comment on this forum, it's no more difficult to email the club and ask the question.
It would be even better, in my humble opinion, if people emailed the club with suggestions rather than having a go on a forum, there might just be more progress. I have to agree that things could be better but can't see any progress being made without constructive, properly directed comment/feedback etc.

When I posted this thread it was as a constructive suggestion for the club to provide another avenue in which to sell itself not as a criticism of anyone.
I had already suggested the idea of a "Town TV"/"Match highlights" on the clubs Facebook wall where people from the club would read it and I posted it on here to guage the fans feelings on the subject
We already have a website that could be providing all sorts of information without telling people to "ring the club" for everything. What about people who live away from Workington but follow Town in the media, etc, are they supposed to "ring the club" to find out if we do this or that? Have a look arouind some of the other club websites pensioner and see for yourself how many have embraced technology to give their clubs a modern brighter image.

Agreed don't see anything negative at all in what was being said. Also isn't this the official forum, so you would guess a club official may pop by to gauge fans opinions. Pensioner, in selling sometimes you have to go out and grab the attention of the buyer, rather than buyer chasing the seller.

My original post was an attempt to be helpful where it appeared that someone was unaware of a product they appeared to want. My mistake in offering genuine advice.
In my second post I also agreed that things could be better, I would love all of Towns commercial enterprises to be 100% on the ball and accept that it has some way to go.
I have a business to run and don't have time to put any more effort into the club than I do now. Rest assured that if I did, I might trawl other clubs websites for ideas, but only to do something constructive. Time spent looking for ideas and then directing them at other fans won't achieve anything in my view, unless the other fans are to be the ones who take up the idea and put the effort in.

This is a forum, it's where ideas are discussed.
The idea of "cheaper" DVD's of games appears a good one - especially if promoted, I don't know, perhaps promote say on Club Website and official forum.
The idea of "highlights" is also a good one, anything to generate interest.
This is not having a go at the hard working people at the club, one of the most refreshing aspects on this forum in recent times was when TLV (A then club official) interacted with supporters. Certainly a Barrow Raiders official regularly keeps fans informed on their forum. Again just an idea.

You think what you want pensioner and as you obviously have some "connection" with the club I hope others have a more progressive attitude than the one you are showing. Maybe you should trawl other clubs websites and see how they can be used for the benefit of the club and as I posted above, which you seem to be ignoring, I posted it on here to guage other fans reactions to the idea. I had already mentioned it on Town's Facebook wall which I believe is updated by Town's office staff. Judging by fans reactions on here and on Facebook, many think it would be a good idea and worth following up.
So to do it "officially", an e-mail has now been sent to our new Commercial Manager with the suggestion and hopefully he can see some merit in it and the website, which if used correctly could bring in funds for the club as well as being a source of information for the fans.

My "connection" with the club is as a fan, supporter, shareholder, occasional sponsor and someone who occasionally does what he can to help in any way possible; no more than that.
As regards having a progressive attitude, we may have to differ on that one. I firmly believe in progress, but however many ideas are mooted on this forum, good, bad or indifferent, progress will only be made if they make the leap from the forum to the real world outside. Lets hope that your "official" e-mail (I would prefer to think of it as a more targeted approach) has some effect and more people are made aware of Towns products.

Keith, think we have been down this road before, you appear to have loads of time to spend on your computer, why dont you volunteer your services? Its fine to come up with loads of ideas but whats needed is people to actually do things, and as for the DVD of highlights of games i believe the procam folks have the rights to selling these, so contact them,Tadje

Well, I never thought my original post would have touched so many nerves as it has, so I apologise for upsetting any of you and I wish that I could do more for the club but I am content in the knowledge that over many years I have done much voluntary and community work not connected with rugby league.

Don't worry Keith, not a bit upset. By the way, did you ever contact Procam to buy a DVD, or was it always just a wind-up?Well, I never thought my original post would have touched so many nerves as it has, so I apologise for upsetting any of you and I wish that I could do more for the club but I am content in the knowledge that over many years I have done much voluntary and community work not connected with rugby league.

Cheap video camera, decent vantage point,a couple of hours editing and posting or five minutes to show a short clip.
easy cheap and none time consuming but could give us guys away from the area something to look forward to.
