chris has yet to sign the contract for the lease of the ground meaning techinically the ground is owned by the brewery.
till all parties sign there part of the agreement i.e the council to buy the ground off the brewery, and then the council to lease the ground back to the rugby over a 20 year period, after which the rugby will be given the opportunity to buy the ground off the council.
The private land ownership which takes in aprox a 1/4 of the land (second floodlight down on whitebank road in a diagonal line towards and past the golf course) is owned by Stamford Estates...who act on behalf of royal land ownership (for those frowning thats the royal family :-)), which as you would imagine makes contract negotiations difficult. the land was rented to the football club on a pepper corn rent as the land is green belt and you are unable to get planning permission which suited the football club as all they required was the land to play on.
This has been one of the major stumbling blocks of developing the ground in the past and which is probably the main hurdle facing the rugny club at present.
hope this has clarrified a few things.
P.s contary to reports in the rugby press Oldham Town didnt go bust, they just changed their name to distance themselves from their former chairman who owned the club but not the name

This is a serious concern, if it's the council purchasing they are the one's that will have to negotiate with Stamford to either acquire or vary the terms to allow development of the land. Having seen the Council's recent performance with Latics, we face the prospect of being in a ground we can do nothing with for some time. Another own goal!

I'm constantly checking the day list enquiries at the land registry through my business (via the land registry portal) to see if any applications are put in to change the current title and see if a new title is added (denoting a new lease has been entered into).
I'll keep you posted.
Snickers
Ps hope your keeping well Sam!!

Yes mine too. It now makes sense why the small (main) stand is at the top end and not positioned in the middle.

The Oldham Town /Borough FC Manager was criticising Oldham RLFC last saturday, our first team trained on the Whitebank pitch on Saturday morning, the day before the Halifax game, which meant the football game had to be cancelled, he was accusing the rugby club of deliberately ruining the pitch.
He must realise we had these problems the OAFC but at the end of the day, We are the landlords and they play at Whitebank plenty much rent free.....our pitch our rules

Oldham 13 -
The football lads pay to the club £145 per game they stage at Whitebank (extra for floodlights) For this they get the pitch - cut (when needed), rolled (weather permitting) and marked out. They also get their goal posts re- positoned. So basically they dont get it rent free, hope this helps.
