steady away today, wasn't a great game with loads of errors but to nil any team is a decent result, our defence looks to be improving game after game
yates, sullivan and cakacaka looked good today, all did loads of running and made the hard yards, the twins were always busy as usual, im still unconvinced by a few others this season but elliot kear had another good game, great signing so far

Thought we tried to force the pass a bit too much at times but we looked a lot sharper today attacking wise with a bit more patience might have had a few more a lot more offloading by forwards but to nil a team got to be happy about that Workington never looked like scoring

Good result today all in all but there's still plenty of questions to be answered. Where will Matty Fox fit in? Who will be 1st choice full back? Which hookers gonna get left out when it comes to the league?
The pack looked good today and for the first time fairly fit, but again how could Lowey and Houston be left out?
We have to be all guns blazing in our opening league game and destroy York to give out an indication we can survive in this league. At the moment it still seems that were not quite prepared for that

i dont have an issue with houston and lowey being left out, both will be in our strongest 17 you and i know that, and i'm guessing marchy does too, nothing wrong with him mixing it up a bit and seeing what everyone is made of, especially without a reserve team, i'm sure we'd all rather him tinker in the northern rail than in the league
we are beginning to improve, and we still have two more games before the league starts, i think we'll be ready when york arrive

To be fair Josh it was said there was going to be changes and think we all know that Houston and Lowey will be in team come start of league. Marchy has got a decision on who to have as fourth front rower though because like the look of Yates and Kaka has also looked good todayGood result today all in all but there's still plenty of questions to be answered. The result was good today but the performance should have been better in my opinion.
That has to be the poorest Workington Town side i've seen for a long time and right from the off they were at sixes and sevens with each other.
Our display last week against Batley was much better for me.
Fair play on the defence for nilling them but they never really came close to scoring all game.
With a few obvious '1st choice 17' players missing today it was probably the right score for the game and the performance.

Well the defence pretty much carried on from where it left off last week, any Workington attacks were either stopped at source, or easily controlled. And when they did finally make a break in the last few minutes (you know, the one that started when the scrum-half knocked on), we were comfortably able to track back and cover the danger.
The attack spluttered into forming a cohesive unit from time to time, especially on Paul March's and Kain's tries; another two or three tries were stopped by decent Workington defence, but we blew at least another two or three completely on our own ... on several occasions we were guilty of holding on too long before letting the pass go, and at other times we seemed hellbent on keeping turning it back inside when going wide seemed the better option.
The Marches worked hard, Kain got man of the match and Haughey is much more effective in the second row where he can get involved more, than in the centre. A word too for Barnett, who's been on the end of a few jibes from both our own and opposing supporters, but came out after half-time and finally started to look a bit more like a Rugby League winger.
I'd sort of assumed we'd shot our bolt regarding qualifying for this competition after the Batley defeat, but looking at the table this morning and the remaining fixtures it would seem very likely that a win at Sheffield will take us through, so we find ourselves in a similar position to when we went to Halifax last year.
Let's hope for (1) for a similar result and (2) a few more supporters making the effort to go to Don Valley, than the paltry numbers than we took to The Shay last year.

Houston is injured and may have done ligaments un his knee, if so will be on the sidelines for a while.

Good defensive performance but we have no clue on how to create overlaps for wingmen [and if we do, can they take them?] I was rather bored with the game yesterday as I would rather see us play good attacking rugby scoring spectacular tries even if we lose. I know the players won't see it like that as they obviously want winning pay.

Il be making the trip to the don valley now, wasnt gonna bother, but now we have a chance to go through il be there supporting the lads, who'd have thought after Oldham and Batley we would still be in with a chance to go through!

The pitch is too narrow we never have a problem creating overlaps away from home still reckon more to come we have gradually improved week by week and should go to Don Valley with a bit more confidence

The pitch is indeed too narrow, but no narrower than it was last year (or several years before that for that matter) and it didn't stop us scoring hatfuls of tries against some decent (albeit mostly C1) sides last season.
Apparently once the season has started you're not allowed to alter the pitch dimensions so I guess we're stuck with it for the season now ...

It would have been too much trouble for the council to change the dimensions or they would have wanted an arm and a leg in payments to do it!

Why the fuss about a narrow pitch?--- the last time the touchline was changed was season 2000/2001 since then we've finished bottom of Championship 1 and last season WON Championship 1 so there isn't much wrong with it.The pitch is indeed too narrow, but no narrower than it was last year (or several years before that for that matter) and it didn't stop us scoring hatfuls of tries against some decent (albeit mostly C1) sides last season.

Sunday against Workington saw a massive defensive effort with all our pack playing well--- the reshuffle is working well . I'm told Neil Lowe was ill with the flu so wasn't available, and Fox is working away.
Attack looked a bit predictable with a lack of penetration and no one to "take them on"--- 3 games gone and not one try from our wingmen
Still early days, and will be interesing to see what the 17 is for the league games.

i,ll say this one more time, give Harding a run in the centre - not the wing.
Why? He is a winger ask him yourself.
The pitch cant be altered it was the RFL who told the club that the pitch had to be taken in 2 years ago. It has to be so many metres away from the running track for players safety.
