From reading these postings I have come to the conclusion that the RL consulted Robbo, and then ignored him.
If it's a small playing area (width?) how did we score so many points last season-- AVERAGE 38 PER GAME (and no I don't have stats between home and away games.)

We scored 378 points and conceded 157 in the ten C1 matches last season Frisky - average score 38-16. But that was down to the difference in quality (both attack and defence) we had over many of the other teams.

This season that difference won't be there; Championship defences will be well organised and difficult to break down (hopefully including ours !), and with the current width of the pitch, I would suspect the the average team score will be closer to the 16 our opponents scored last season, than the 38 we scored.

All pitch sizes vary throughout the league but if you take the average of all teams the following is correct:
Championship average pitch width is : 65.4 metres.
Championship 1 averg' pitch width : 64.75 metres
I honestly don't think that a couple of foot either side of each touch line is going to make the difference between playing attractive rugby or anything else.
Some dimensions below from other clubs:
Hunslet 94 x 64
D.Rams 92 x 62
Widnes 97 x 69
York CK 90 x 60
Batley 98 x 65
Sheff. 88 x 66
Fev. 88 x 70

Biggest - Toulouse 100 x 66
May the FORCE be with you.

Thanks Hawkwindbag for confirming what I said. If we averaged 38 points at home last season, our full average for all first class games was a total of 1060 pts scored giving a average of 37.85 per game and this includes the NIL points we managed to score in the home NR Cup game against Featherstone. From memorary we scored 60 points or more away from home at Gateshead, London, Oldham, and maybe Swinton. (these are from memorary as I don't have access to last seasons results at the moment.
We have put the club records in the match day programme but one is incomplete," Most points in a game" --- we know it is held by WAYNE Mc HUGH in the away NR Cup game at London at the start of last season. If anyone remembers the total number and makeup could they put it on here, as I know that both Hawkeye, and Spartacus are avid readers of my postings, and the programme can then be corrected..
Speaking about Wayne McHugh I do know the reason why he is not playing for us, but after last Sundays game with a dominant pack we needed someone in the backs with pace. I respect the decision of the coach and the Director of Rugby but I ask them to consider giving him a second chance or find somebody with natural pace.

I'm not particularly surprised by York, the pitch is also constrained by a running track and the size and feel of the pitch seems similar to ours from the sidelines.

I'll confess to being surprised by Dewsbury though !! Optical illusions are obviously alive and well in Rugby League !!

The figures also confirm something else I've always thought ... that Post Office Road is not that far off being square !!

Hell of a difference though - 10 metres - between the widest and the narrowest ... enough I'd have thought to warrant different gameplans to deal with it, irrespective of the opposition.

Wayne McHugh scored 4 tries, 8 goals - 32 points - in the 60-12 win at London Skolars that day.

Other tries were scored by James Houston, Paul March, Rob Kelly, Richard Chapman, Dave Clayton, Adam Sullivan and Nathan Larvin.
