I was thoroughly entertained, especially in the second half by a very enjoyable match with lots of incident both on the pitch (and in the seats would you believe  ). Swinton were the better side deservedly on the day but Oldham,a long way off their best but resolute against a side full of guile and pace made more than a game of it, Thanks lads you certainly warmed me up...well played!

Turned it into a scrappy game Oldham. We shouldn't have got involved, so i suppose good tactics from Benson. Lucas should have been on report at least for a ridiculous elbow in the 2nd Half on Ainscough. Good afternoons rugby all in all.

Very annoying game. Swinton were the better team and blasted us in the first 30 mins taking a 20-6 lead and deserved to win. We were extremely sloppy especially in defence when Watson was running the ball at the line. Second half we didn't really improve in terms of quality but our attitude was hugely improved and paved a way back into the game that we really didn't deserve on our first half showing. Why we keep kicking to our oppositions most destructive runners is getting extremely frustrating.

Ben Wood had an absolute cracker out wide in the second half and must stay in the second row,Swinton just couldn't cope in a similar way that we couldn't keep Joseph under control in the first half. Roden was pressurised out of the game by lighting Swinton defence but we rectified this by kicking in behind their umbrella defence and scoring two tries for Gilly. Clarkey had an excellent second half at prop and Boults got through a lot of work especially in the first half.

Overall I thought that whilst Swinton were the better team and deserved to win if we start picking a consistent team especially in the forwards(why were two hookers on the bench when Elly and Gilchrist were both available) then we can match them.

I agree we were second best today. Lacked a bit of speed and agility up front.Speaking with the lads pitchside Gilchrist and Elli were carrying knocks. Hopefully back next week.

Two easy fixes that I could see were...
We have to work on bigger yardage kicks on penalties, rather than the slicing 10 yarders, so the ball rather than the forwards do more work midfield,
and
It is simply not smart to keep kicking the restart ball deep to a side that was consistently returning the ball big yards due to time without pressure to rev up and spot gaps...RU style restart ,so we can contest the ball is better.
As for Big Phil, hes just strong as a pair of Oxen let alone one...who wouldn`t struggle to put him down.
Junior looked ok at fullback.
I think we missed McNally`s creativity...Greg turned out for Barra yesterday and played well!
Swinton are good but we will be better at Whitebank...We can beat them!
