There needs to be a massive improvement this Sunday if we are to get anywhere near winning at halifax. Rugby league is a team game and sadly that was missing against gateshead on a number of occasions when players stuck with the ball instead of passing. I'm not feeling very confident about this game and sadly my head is ruling my heart so...

I dont think Halifax have set the competition alight over the last couple of games either. I think you, and other are doing your team an injustice with your score predictions.
Batley should start this game as firm favourites, after all they are the current cup holders and they won the "champions of champions" game.

Ignoring your Fergusonesque comment at the end, our problem is going forward. I actually think our defence has been ok so far this season. gateshead scored from an interception, and Hunslet were never going to score in the second half if we had played all week. Even against Leigh we held them for long periods after the opening ten until Mennell went off.
We just do not seem to have any cohesion going forward, where it looks like individuals are all out to score for themselves. I worry that our half backs do not yet know their roles and part in the bigger picture.
Still, I am sure at some point this season it will click into place, just not optimistic that it will happen on Sunday.

The cohesion will come when the halves make the decision to pass the ball quickley to a team mate who is placed in a better position to gain more ground, i would suggest that when they do this they also support each other too in the hope that an offload or two will come their way

To be fair to Moore, Handforth and Mennell, it's not just the half backs who need to pass the ball quickly to a better placed team mate.
All I'm realistically hoping for is a better performance on Sunday.
A win is obviously possible and cannot be ruled out, but I fear a 10 point loss - say 20-10.

to be fair, theres no problem with the speed of the ball and we do have many ideas out wide that work, the main problem is it simply dont come out when we have a 4 on 2 overlap many times, far too much greedy play when we have seen so real top moves/plays last season. if the likes a mauno/retie get more ball the results will come. we went thru a faze with ash wanting to score on every play near the line and also lythsy and threw a few games away when we had power out wide, we cant wait for the sunshine to kick on and start playing as we can, have sat at the 74-6 score lines for a few years so heres hoping we play as i know the lads can and shake fax up with some champagne stuff. To be fair to Moore, Handforth and Mennell, it's not just the half backs who need to pass the ball quickly to a better placed team mate.

I never look forward to Fax games and it would be fair to say that the men from the shay are our new bogey team after whitehaven have surrendered this title.
Its going to be a real close encounter, with every yard battled for with the most plucky or hungry side taking the win OR we are going to be shown what a regular top 4 side has in its arsenal!
Man for man I reckon on the day we have enough to over-power/ out'enthuse them, although i cant remember ever coming away from the shay with a smile.

should keep out of the way and let the backs get on with it.We lack any sort of second phase
attack as hardly anyone is prepared to pass the ball out of tackles, the more you offload
the ball the more you tire the other team simple really.

As long as we continue to play one out rugby we will struggle, after 3 drives our forwards
should keep out of the way and let the backs get on with it.We lack any sort of second phase
attack as hardly anyone is prepared to pass the ball out of tackles, the more you offload
the ball the more you tire the other team simple really.
Perhaps the rhino isn't a fan of second phase stuff and the offload isn't valued at Mount pleasant.
The bulldog action served up so far in the northern rail cup is far from attractive but the weather has had a say in on-field options.
We have the best hooker and half back personnel available for a long time, hopefully the no.6, 7, 9 and 13 positions are now agreed on...

from a good hooker, he never looks up to see whats on, takes the
ball down the short side far too often. A good hooker takes a couple
of steps weighs up the situation and plays accordingly not ours just
ships the ball out.Watch halifax hooker today if you want to see a good hooker

You must be seeing something from Lythes i'm not because he's far

I like Lythes, he's been a good servant over the years, but unfortunately these days he plays more like an extra second-rower who happens to pick the ball up at acting-half. Sadly, yet another player (see Toohey, John Gallagher) who's talent was never nurtured and developed at all under the previous coaching regime. When he started his career under Paul Storey, his darts from acting half-back were one of the best areas of his game. Unfortunately, it seemed to get drilled out of him. When Flanagan returns, and providing he gets back up to speed with the game at this level, I'd give Lythes a try-out in the back-row, because we definitely need more spark from the play the ball area.
