This was a game we were never going to win and to be honest the final scoreline didn't do us justice. The last 15 minutes showed the difference between part-time and full-time players but until that point I think Town did well to hold them to just 12 points.

Two decisions could have had a different bearing on the game. In the first half Jarrad Stack put the ball down on the try-line and the ref, who was on the wrong side of the play, said he had grounded it short. Within a minute they had gone down the other end and scored. Then in the second half Brett Carter seemed to have scored a good try only for the ref to call it a double movement.

The game is getting as bad as rugby union now for forward passes. I remember the TJ's controller, Tony Brown, telling us that you have to watch the players hands when he passes the ball. Well he should have passed that message on to the touch judges who were operating today!!!!

Town defended quite well but I thought that in the second half we tended to play too much one man stuff and that was never going to get us any where against the big Leigh pack. Scott Kaighan picked up the man of the match award but I hope Charlo is going to also give Scotty a copy of the match to compare his kicking against the Leigh kicking game. Where we were putting up in the air directly to their full-back their kicker was keeping it low between our players and making us start our 6 plays from our own 10 metres time after time.

Today's performance would have been good enough against many teams in our league and hopefully the lads can kick on from here starting next week at Rochdale in the Cup.

I thought the effort was good today Keith.I have to agree with the kicking comments, especially our kick offs i wish we would drill a few into the ground

Leigh are only a part-time team as well.

Some lets say "odd" decisions from the ref today, some of the scrums he gave them after they had actually knocked on were strange to say the least. But I though we played well, defender pretty well for most of the game other than our right hand defense. That really is something that needs sorting as were letting in a lot of tries down that side. With another half back we will take some beating up here in our league, so all in all pretty happy with the game if not the final score.

Sorry mate, I was just going by the comments made on the radio on my way home when they said that Leigh were full-time!!!

I thought young Bainbridge had a very good game today dkw and his defence was spot on. With a little bit of luck we could have had another try when Kaighan couldn't hold the final pass which was slightly behind him with the line at his mercy in the first half.

Lots of positives to be gained from today and I'm sure we will more than hold our own in Championship 1 this year.

Where is John Patrick? Many people were asking that question today after his very good performance against Gateshead.

I thought some of the Leigh play was outstanding today and i really enjoyed watching them,Town played ok but in truth we were well beat but like whats been said we should do well in our own league...i agree with Keith about Kaighan he did have a good game but his kicking does need to improve kicking it down the throats of players especially when they had the speed of the Leigh players just doesnt work...

towns right side of defence was poor today especially when stack had went off.aaron lows 1 on 1 tackling was really poor and 3 tries came from leigh running right through him,the try off the scrum which there 6 shrugged him off was poor.surely patrick deserves a run as from what ive seen hes our best centre.we desperately need holty back as our kicking game, long and short,is rubbish at best.i thought whitehead was superb in defence today.the ref was ###### but we should expect that now.

I would say that the score definitely flattered us today. I thought had a couple of decisions gone your way we could have folded. The disallowed try in the first half was a double movement. His ball carrying hand and the ball touched before the line and he lifted up a put it over. His body was carrying no momentum. No try. The dissalowed try straight into the second half, I could not see why he struck that one off. I don't think the ref had too badf a game. He binned the wrong player as I thought it was Stu Donlan holding on to your mans legs not Ricky Bibey. We had a lot of harsh penalties against us in the first half and Millward will put that right. I thought your 7 was head and shoulders above any player on that pitch and thoroughly deserved his MOM followed closely by your full back. Chins up Worky you will go well this year and you should be shouting it around you nice little town so you can get more in there. One gripe. Next time we come, make sure the bar is sorted. There was a coach full of thirsty Leythers who had just travelled 150 miles and the bar was poorly stocked.

Pleased you enjoyed your day at Worky TV Boy and the atmosphere in the popularside shed was good humoured and a bit of a laugh. Even Leigh fans singing "we hate Haven" and "Haven reject to Nanyn" when he was missing goal kicks. Maybe someone reading this thread can pick up on your point of stocking the bar as someone got a ticking off for suggesting a pub in town for the Leigh fans to visit when they should have been directing them to Derwent Lounge!!! Best of luck for the season.

To be fair most of the Leigh fans ended up in the club bar, it reminded me of the old Mick Martyn Bar at Hilton Park there were that many Leythers in there.

I have one other comment to make re: the mention of Leigh being full time by Radio Cumbria. Travelling around the country and listening to different local radio stations, Cumbria has to be the most amusingly biased and factually incorrect of them all.

Enjoyed our day and despite our patchy performance it was better than the infamous result from several years ago. Good luck for the rest of the season

Sorry folks, no forecast comp this year

Have to agree with you that the score flattered you but to say the ref didn't have too bad a game????!! The 4th official yesterday is a friend of mine for many years and he even said to me (when I made a comment about the ref) "He wasn't good was he" - not good where your colleagues agree with fans about your performance. He also said that he thought 12 -18 would have been a fairer and more reflective result.

On the plus side - a good performance against a very highly rated team from the higher league. Well done Town

I have always said refs are like players they can have good bad or average games.

Leigh were clearly the better side not least because they are a division higher. A big gap now between Championship and Champ 1 as there is between Championship and Superleague. The scoreline was flattering to us because of the 2 late converted try's.

Very impressed with your full back and scrum half and you have a big pack which I thought did well. You should be pushing for promotion this season.

Was in a pub in Worky and spoke to several of your fans who said they were not going to the game because of the poor team you sent to Hunslet the previous week.

One final thing all the Workington people I met were very friendly and chatty. Those at the match too which makes a change compared to going to your near neighbours ground.

Glad you had a good day, your boys were in good form in the shed singing away and it was all done with great humour. I was surprised by the lack of control in your team at times, plenty of moves breaking down from first receiver. I`m guessing Robbie Paul is usually 1st or 2nd receiver when he plays and will give you more in attack. Thought your 6 had a good game, best laugh of the day though was one of our fans (what a numptie ###### he is) shouting abuse at Littler who looked completely bemused and amused at the whole thing. Good luck for the rest of the season.

No problem mate, wish we could afford it!!

Couldn't make the game because of work yesterday (first game I've missed since 2008 bar volanic-ash cancelling our flight to Limoux in the Cup last year!) and gutted to have missed what sounds a good day out - spoke to a few mates who were at the game and said your lot were a thousand times friendlier and better-humoured than that mob down the road from you (yes, we're not keen on 'Haven either!)!

Thanks for that demonUK, I've just watched the match again and I am still convinced that Stack's try in the first half should have stood as it looked to me that the ball touches the line and also the one in the second half where Carter lands on his left shoulder and rolls over and puts the ball down was a good try.

It's all water under the bridge now but I also thought that almost half of Duffy's passes from dummy half were forward. It was bit ironic when a Leigh pass under our sticks hit another Leigh player and bounced forward, was caught by a Town player who passed it slightly forward to another Town player who was racing clear and he pulled us back for the forward pass not the original knock on and gave the scrum to Leigh. Some strange decisions.

Best of luck for the rest of the season.
