Found this when I was browsing - anyone remember? What the video does not show was that we hammered them if my memory serves me correctly, something like 4 - 22

Hope the link works

Yes, remember this game vividly. On the Monday week following this game, the RL Express was inundated with letters from Cougars fans complaining about the behaviour of Batley fans at the game, claiming that some of our supporters had urinated on them from the top of the terraced stand (believe it or not). I was only 14 at the time, so it wasn't me guv!
What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

Some great names on there too, Tomlinson, Scott, Wilson, Moxon and the great Michael Booth. I remember how Keighley seemed years ahead of their time with their game day presentation. I especially remember the MC winding up the crowd with tales of 'smokin' Joe Grima winding himself up in the changing room before the match. And as for Brendon Hill!!!

Talking of the that era, has anyone got a copy of the infamous, shortlived 'fanzine' that was published by a group of fans during that period? I'm led to believe that there were only a few editions released, but due to some controversial it was sadly shelved. I'd love to get hold of one!

This is one of my favorite games. I think this match is on video somewhere, (ANYONE GOT IT?) the other 70 mins were like that. To sum it up Keighley just got fed up of that fiece tackling!!

Was that the game when a Batley fan ran onto the pitch, just before kick off and planted a flag into the picth (it sank about a foot!). The look on the Cougars faces was priceless!!

As a matter of interest, Harold, at what age did you start urinating?

I think the final score in this game was 26 - 12 to batley i have it on video and hopefully it was converted to dvd recently by those nice people at bissa. I didn't attend the match at the time as i had to work so really enjoyed watching the video it would have had commentary but keighley wouldn't let brian aubrey do it (apparently?.

I seem to recall that the final score was 22-4?
The year after we went there and beat them again, 22-20.
Cougar place was a horrible place to go around that time. Unfortunately not many of their army of new fans had a clue about the rules of RL, which resulted in cat-calls for a penalty at virtually every tackle. They all wore really naff mint green tracksuits and baseball caps too.

The centre you are thinking of is none other than Mark Milner, Goldie. He was an excellent player to be he honest - quick and strong. However, he only lasted a few seasons in the pro-game and then vanished into the record books. I think the Cougars signed him from Featherstone.

March 1994 you won 22 - 6 at Lawkholme Lane and in Oct 1994 you won there 26 - 22.

Jan 1994 they stuffed you 29 - 8 at the Mount in the CC.

You can mock those Keighley fans but at least they followed their team. When they beat you in the CC there were 2409 there, the previous week you played York at home in front of 707.

(All hail the power of Rothmans!!)

According to the trusty old rothmans yearbook it was 22-6, played out in front of 3108 fans on 27/3/94. Glen Tomlinson 2 tries, Steve Walker 1, Tony Walton 1 and 3 goals from Simon Wilson.

In the reverse fixture at the mount we lost 16-8 on the 21/11/93, in front of 1793. Tomlinson try and Phil holmes 2 goals.

The same season we also played them in the challenge cup 4th round on 30/1/94 losing 29-8, this was also at home. Crowd that day was 2409. Wilson try and Jez Dyson 2 goals.

The following season we doubled them. Firstly at cougar park on 9/10/94 26-22, in front of 3016 fans, with GARY THORNTON scoring a brace, Darren Moxon bagging one and Wison notcing up 1 try, 4 goals and 2 one pointers.

At home we registered an 8-6 victory on 6/3/95, in front of 2858, ( a week after getting 3800 against Wigan) try scorer was Graham Middleton and Wilson again kicked the goals.

Granted, BSJ. But in my experience (generalising massively here  ) they were an obnoxious crowd. Keighley did magnificently to attract them in such numbers, but they should have dished out RL rule books on the turnstyles to save the rest of us from having to endure the noise that resulted from their lack of knowledge. The game highlighted above via Youtube was, inparticular, a horrific 80 minutes of non-stop calls for non-existant high tackles and forward passes.

Talking of memories I remember when it the Batley three quarter line read: Riches, Etty, Stokes, Harrison. Wow they were formidable. Mind plays tricks but as a Fev supporter of over 70 years I think Gilbertson was playing half back that season. have a good year.

Yes - and where are those new Keighley fans now !

You really must try harder in your obvious bias against Batley which devalues every point you make on this site

Very true HS. I never liked going to Lawkholme Lane in those days, especially being berated by their PA, but their marketing was first class.

Bradford pinched their ideas, and fans, when SL came along, leaving only the long-standing, loyal and knowledgeable behind.
