What's the best match you've ever seen your team play in?

The best match i played in for Hornets was the one when we went to Hilton Park to play Leigh with half a team and smashed them to bits!!!

Now there's a question!

There's the Oldham derby when Spotland had about 8,500 in and we turned 'em over thanks to a massive match from Matt Calland. There were also two games against Halifax during the Goulding first stint when we won on the last play of the game, home and away, they were very upset those 'Fax fans and no mistake.

Then there was the time we went to Wilderspool and were leading until Wire got a late, late penalty for Hornets breathing at the wrong time or something. The kick sailed wide and even the Wire coach agreed it missed but the touchies gave it and we lost. Damned shame!!!!

However, I think the game to beat them all was the Leigh away in Bobbie's first season. Bobbie rested a few for the run of games at home and the lads were expected to get the mother and father of all hidings, but they didn't read the script.

We got in front early on and the faithful start ironically singing easy, easy, and the guy in front of me said, "You wait, we haven't started yet." Well we got better and they got panicky and at half time I think it was 0-22. Straight away in the second half we scored again and from the kick-off Robbo took the kick, went up the right side ducked under a disgusting clothes line from Tommy Martyn, made 40 tards and handed on to, I think McGovern who scooted in under the black dot. I tapped the guy on the shoulder and his face was ashen and I just said "You will let us know when you get started won't you." Good grief the referee even sin-binned one of ours and they still got tatered 18-44.

I've got the DVD and it is a very treasured posession.

One of the best matches I saw was when we beat Leeds 5-3 in a John Player Trophy match. Bill Holliday's drop goal winning it late on. Another good match for me was when we beat Cas in (I think) a Regal Trophy match. I taught in a school in Leeds and several pupils were Cas supporters. They had been telling me all week how we would get hammered but on the Monday it was a different tale.

It was Kris Ratcliffe who i passed the ball to Puggie. Fantastic day, we all had a night out in Leigh that night too, awesome.
