Who is the best player you've ever seen play for your club?

Okay I will start try and get some healthy debate going.......

We have had some real good uns and I appreciate that I havent watched Hornets for as long as some so in my time I would have to say im torn between Danny Sculthorpe and Matt Calland both for very different reasons

Yes, many good players and even some great players and some that achieved greatness after being with us.

Probably the best player ever at the club was Frank Myler. He was world class in the era when we could still give the Australians a bl**dy good fight. Other like Bobbie Goulding, Jason Denetriou, Neil Cowie, Henderson Gill and many others all get mentions.

Best Clubman, probably Alan Hodgkinson, battled up and down some muddy meadows in the years when you couldn't tell which side was which after 10 minutes.

If I haven't mentioned some, you've not been forgotten, just slipped the mind.

Ahhhhh the memories.

Several players spring to mind. When I started watching Hornets Ted Cahill, Norman Short and John Fishwick were my favourite players. Later on players like Mick Baxter, Malcolm Price, Bill Hanson and Appy Toga stand out in my memory. Then there was the Frank Myler period with Tom Brophy, Alan Hodkinson and Peter Gartland among many fine players. Another player who gave good service to us was Joe Chamberlain.

As with others on here, Frank Myler, stands out. Followed by Kel Coslet. A personal favorite of mine Peter Clarke, in an era when hookers were hookers. Not the most mobile of players, but he couldnt half get the ball out of the scrum. Allso when there was any trouble on the field Peter wasnt far away from it. Peter Birchall a good club man. Ahhhhh, memories of happy days at the Athletic grounds.

Ahhh, now you're talking Arthur. Clarkey could get a ball out of the scrum before the 7 put it in I think!?!?!? I remember when they had just chosen the new GB hooker, Bridges at Fev and the first game after the news was Hornets at the old Athletic Grounds. Rumour has it the Fev coach showed Bridges the ball at half time just in case he'd forgot what it looked like!!!!! Clarkey took the whatsit out of him all afternoon.

All those players mentioned, plus........John Woods, Brett Clark, Logan Edwards, Willy Aspinall, Tony Halmshaw, Phil Bancroft, Martin Hall, Neil Cowie, all class players........and not to forget the one and only....Dave Watson, who could win a match on his own.

There are so many to choose from down the years, and there are also so many who are instantly forgettable !!

I wouldn't argue with some of the earlier choices. Frank Myler, Kel Coslett, John Butler, Peter Clarke, Bill Holliday, Willie Aspinall, Tom Brophy, Alan Hodgkinson, Greg Austin, Phil Bancroft would make any Hornets XIII.
