After going to my first ‘home’ game of the season at that cesspit of a ground where we are plying out trade this season, I got talking to a few of the ‘old timers’.(no offence to the people in question lol ) We got talking about the plans for where we think we will be playing next season. A few places came up as ideas, but that’s not overly important to this post.

After the meeting at the Moorside Social Club at the back end of last year, we were told that we would have a definite answer on where we will be with planning for the new stadium etc, at the next meeting in December. However, no news filtered out of that meeting, and now we are in March and the season is well under way. We start the league campaign next week and then before we know it we’ll be at the playoffs etc.

Am I alone in thinking that the club owe it to the fans to keep them informed? If we are up the creek next season in regards a home venue, is it not better to tell people now rather than treating us like fools and hoping we will go away. If we are going to Barton, back to Park Lane, up to Darwen, or even calling it a day and folding the club, should the fans not be told, after all the heart and soul of any club is the fans.

Just feels to me like we are, as the topic is titled, I feel like we are being kept in the dark and fed bullshizzle.

Discuss.
Dont worry, it will soon be Christmas!

I suppose if matters are progressing behind closed doors with the Council then it is understandable that the club are keeping things close to their chest, and both parties have alluded to this. However, that isn't an excuse for not having a public "Plan B" - after all, I'm sure the supporters would be glad to assist and support if the club needed it. What I agree with you most, Barnie, is that the fans, and the community they represent are the heart and soul of the club, and have been kept in the dark and neglected often in the past. Whilst the 2011 Lions look like an excellent team on the park, with genuine aspirations in the league, it isn't that long until January 2012 in the big scheme of things. We all know what the rumour mill can be like when it gets going, and that can only be a negative thing, regardless of whether there is truth in it. Whatever, there aren't a lot of viable options left for the club in the short term.

I think most ppl can appreciate that certain things need to be kept behind closed doors, and out of the public domain. However, treat the spectators with some respect. IF u tell the fans, who are the lifeblood of any club, that you’ll have an answer by a certain date, give them the answer on that date. IF you don’t have that answer then tell ppl where you are up to and what is causing the hold up. But keep people informed.

I’ve heard it said a number of times over the years, and also heard it this week in regards the goings on in Scottish football, THE FANS ARE WHAT MAKES THE CLUB, fans are the Raison d'être for any sporting club. Swinton have the best fans, and the most loyal fans, and the noisiest fans per head of any sporting team in the world. It’s just a shame not many of them go anymore due to this constant feeling of alienation.
