I may be clutching at straws here , but hear me out , Watching Oldham now is a little predictable , a few common plays happening too much , maybe just maybe , things need freshening up , Please comment on this if you think i am out of order saying BENSON OUT , CROMPTON IN Blackpool played some very attcking rugby under crommy and defending they where mostly sound , Oldham seem to lack ideas in attck at the mo and defence is like a chocolate fireguard am sure all oldham fans will see where am coming from

sorry for being a little defeatest here

You are an idiot. If you can't see how much of our problems are created through individual errors you shouldn't be watching rugby. How can the coach stop players disregarding possession of the ball. The players have clearly lost a lot of confidence since the Hunslet win and hopefully crawling over the line today may give some of our inexperienced players a boost. Next week will be a very important game and if we are serious about competing for the league we need to put a marker down.

Benson has been a great coach for us and will continue to be for the future.

You cant make silk purses out of sows ears. Oldham will never get out of the bottom tier of RL or have
a good team ever again without a Bill Quinn type person, and we have'nt go any of them lined up,and
if we manage to find one our CEO seems to get rid of them.

I admire your blind loyalty!
I'm sure that Tony Benson is a nice guy, good to his wife, doesn't kick the pet dog etc, etc.
However, I beg to differ on the great coach, if coaches are measured by results, then at this moment in time he is a failure!
We got rid of Deakin (correctly in my opinion) after 2 seasons, this guy is in his third - make or break this season I think!

They're Benson's team and he, as manager, is responsible for their actions on the field. I've never rated this guy as a coach. I don't know, but I would guess, he came cheap. Our discipline has always been poor, our kicking game less than inspiring, defence is inconsistent and, on attack, we seem to have played the same way in all the time he has been here and, at times, it's totally ineffective. Also, there seems to be no plan B. His record is worse than Deakin's but you know he's gonna stay, as CH thinks he's the bees knees.

Promotion this season? Under Benson, no chance. and, for those who say they don't want promotion yet, or we're not ready for it, have you noticed the level of crowds we've been getting so far. Not much better than early last season at Sedgeley Park.

We're very fortunate to have Tony Benson.OK results have not gone well recently and maybe he's a bit too loyal to the old guard, but it's a very fine line. Without TB we could disappear into the abbyss. With his experience he is an attraction to up and coming youngsters. His task is how to blend these into the team as quick as possible. We're having a blip at the moment and will get better.Personally I'd like to see Clough as No1 hooker, and build a young pack around him who can play at pace. But at the end of the day it's TB's decision as to how quick this happens.

My view. Give TB 100% support,we may need the play-offs to go up so will need something different to last year which could be youth, pace.

What puzzles me after today's performance is Neil Rodens post Match speech.

After accepting the award for MOM, he stated that the reason for the last few poor performances was that "confidence is low"

How after that great result against Hunslet Hawks, is the team suffering feelings of low confidence.
I really cant understand what is behind that statement. Do, as Beacs says in his first posting on here, not share the belief that Benson is no longer the man to do the job, and get us promotion this time around. If that is the frame of mind that the team is in, then it is going to a long hard season with a few losses to come. This post match remark is really worrying, and takes me back to 1996/7 season when we struggling in SL, with Bob Lidner in charge. The club held a meet the players night mid season at the Pennine lounge, and I asked Lidner what was the reason for the losses. He just replied "They're going through a rut mate" So I asked him , what was the answer to getting them out. He just replied he didnt know. I just hope this time that Rats has the answer.
In the First 48.....

Tony Benson seems to have done a fair job on limited resourses for the last 2 years ....
However the facts speak for themselves at the moment .....
Worst performance and LOWEST Score in this Round Of the Challenge Cup by any Professional Club against any Amateur team !!!! FACT . . . . given Donny 34 Thatto 22 ( I recon Thatto Heath are a better quality team than Hunslet Warriors )and Even Skolars ( no disrespect to them ) put 60 past Egremont
....
Only One club currently in a worst positon than Oldham in The Northern Rail Cup Divisions ( BOTH ) and that is Gateshead Thunder

I didn't go today and will be picking my games this season ....and unless the performances improve drasticly , it will not be many matches that I will be attending i'm afraid ... sorry to hear about the behaviour today , and also that at Batley ... brings back bad memories of Warrington away in the 1970's and Home as well ........anyone remember the chap swinging the crutch about in the top of the Penny Rush ????

It may be the "Eddie" effect...Everything seems to be running on a Shoestring...TB has said it, others too...Last season Whitebank Stadium was a Godsend, an Opportunity...But time has gone by...momentum has stalled and we seem to be in a kind of Limbo on and off the field presently. (A similar thing seems to be occuring at Latics), and the RFL plan to raise the bar and lower the Cash and goodness knows what else may change there?
It is early days mind but it is beginning to look like other sides we once were able to dominate are having their day in the sun and that, after the last 4 seasons, will be hard for the fans to swallow.
Tony Benson did a great job last season, It is far too early to be sharpening the Axe for him in my opinion. and the squad certainly has some good potential but so have our rivals in NL1.
The things as I see it that need to change at this club are way out of the remit of the coach, and sadly in an area that is almost impossible to see change happening at all anytime soon.
And its not at all a personality thing or that effort and determination are not forthcoming, the cold hard fact is that the bottom line is £££ and lots of them are required to take the biggest step in the new clubs development since 1997...

It was banded about at the time, that in Bill Quinns time at the club he put 300k into it,
and still didnt get promotion. So as Ive said earlier if we dont get a person like that in we
are destined to Third tier rugby for ever in my eyes. Has who the coach is.

Ok Ok i am an idiot lol , now when i said predictable i meant the play as in pass pass drive , centre of pitch play till 4th tackle then try and break , now if i remember rightly benson said this season on whitebank pitch he clearly stated 40-20 plays down hill more often , has anyone seen rats or diveney try one yet ????? plz understand i am not a benson hater i like the guy , if players lacking confidence then surley he needs to do his job and build their confidence ?? and the players are yes responsible for their handling skills so i dont blame benson for them knocking on after first tackle or bad pass , because its not like he runs on pitch to do it himself is it ?? thanks for your replies guys , but please keep em coming its good to talk lol lol lol lol

Sorry for calling you an idiot that was extremely harsh and uncalled for. Yesterday was a bad performance and my mood wasn't helped after United got walloped.

I think its wrong to question a coach who has served us so well when just about any other coach would have left after the 2009 debacle with Quinn. He's shown us tremendous loyalty and also given us success on the pitch but which ultimately failed in the end.

To this season performances. The players have clearly lost confidence with each half they have played going back to the First half against Halifax and has got steadily worse since then. I was hoping it down to knowing we were out of the NRC but yesterday blew that theory out of the water. I hope winning yesterday gives some of the younger players some confidence and spreads throughout the team.

This weeks game is hugely important for our season. It's the first proper game and if we want to win or compete for the league title we have to set a standard.

You make a valid point when you say next week is the first real competitive game we must win.

What is real purpose of the Northern Rail Cup? if I was coach of a championship one team (which i am not) I would use it to experiment with the team ready for the league season. The attendances have shown what fans think of the cup, our home gate against Whitehaven was about 578 ish, the competion is not bring in any extra revenue.

I have been dissapointed with the performances against Whitehaven and Hunslet Warriors, for me the league games is the most important games of the entire season. I am sure the team performances will develop during the league season.
