WELCOME...

... to NRL 2011 and our very first tipping competition this season.
Hope you had an enjoyable rest!
Everyone reading this is welcome to enter.

We all start from scratch. Here's to our success this week and during the weeks ahead.

Enjoy your Rugby League!

ROUND 1 QUESTIONS:

*Poll Competition:

Here's this week's poll question:

Which Round 1 game will produce the biggest margin of victory?

- enter in the poll itself at the top and put it in your posting. (The poll is anonymous so we can't give you credit unless it is in your predictions post)

...And now the main event of the week:

*Match Tipping Competition:

Name the 8 (that's EIGHT) winning teams in NRL Round 1 2011

*Points Competition

How many points will be scored by all the teams added together in R1?

This is a competition in itself and will act as a tie breaker for the match tipping comp if necessary. This is used as the decider when necessary so do give it a go.

*HOME Win Competition:

How many HOME wins will there be in NRL R1 2011?

In rounds where the game is on the road and played at a neutral venue, the team named first in the fixture will be regarded as the home team for the purposes of this competition.

Round 1 Fixtures

Friday 11th March 2011
Sydney Roosters v South Sydney Rabbitohs

Brisbane Broncos v North Queensland Cowboys

Saturday 12th March 2011
New Zealand Warriors v Parramatta Eels

Gold Coast Titans v St George Illawarra Dragons
Melbourne Storm v Manly Sea Eagles

Sunday 13th March 2011
Canberra Raiders v Cronulla Sharks

Penrith Panthers v Newcastle Knights

Monday 14th March 2011
Canterbury Bulldogs v Wests Tigers

Animated awards will be given for the winner(s) of each competition question.

Match tipping scores will be added together as the season progresses to produce a Tipsters' Ladder which will be pinned to the top of the forum topic list page.

The best of luck to everyone.

What a fantastic season opening game the Roosters v Rabbitohs fixture was. The game had nearly everything.
If ever there was a game to kick start a season that was it.

The off season seemed to last forever. This game was well worth the wait!

By the way Round 1 has caught me a bit on the hop. I won't be able to get on the computer from Sunday for a few days..
Hopefully somebody will mop up the results. I'll see to the awards and statistics as soon as I can during next week. I'll also post the Round 2 tipping competition early to make sure it is there for everybody.

NRL 2011 Round 1

Saturday Results:

Storm 18 - 6 Sea Eagles Home Winning Margin: 12 points
Titans 16 - 25 Dragons Away WM: 9 points
Warriors 18 - 24 Eels Away WM: 6 points

Storm had to battle against a big tough Manly side who tried to make their extra beef count. Storm's young guns stuck to their task and came through the game pretty well. The experience of Smith, Slater and Cronk held things together well. Widdop looks to have stepped into the side nicely with the number 6 on his back. His delayed pass to Nielson sealed a good performance from him. Storm might have won by more, but the vid ref disallowed a couple of would be tries ... rightly so. Worst thing for Manly and Fantasy League folk? Probably not today's defeat for the Sea Eagles, but the injury to Jamie Lyon who could be out for some time and will be missed. I looked out for you Bourbon Rat on the TV coverage. Do you think you were on camera at any point? If so let me know when as I couldn't see you on first viewing the game.

Got up early for the Storm game and did the fist pump a few times, especially when Chase went over with a lovely spin and change of direction.

Typical Solid Storm defence, attack didn't look great but a few well ran plays was enough to get a good win.

Manly missed Lyon and Ballin and bar the odd linebreak offered very little.

Great win for the Eels over the Warriors. Tactic of using the bomb really hurt the Warriors and they left themselves to much to do.

NRL 2011 Round 1

Sunday Results:

Raiders 40 - 12 Sharks Home Winning Margin: 28 points
Panthers 8 - 42 Knights Away WM: 34 points

Panthers will need to start their season proper next week after a error strewn performance today. They got hardly anything right, and it took just over 80 minutes before they scored their consolation try. Knights were dominant in all departments on a hot day in Penrith.
Raiders also took their opposition apart with seven tries each scored by a different Canberra player. Croker scored heavily with one try and six conversions to his name. To rub salt into Sharks wounds, Paul Aiton was sent off for head-butting late on in the game.
