In 1844 there was a revolution in a small mill town called Rochdale, it didn’t involve soldiers or politicians only the local traders who decided that it was time the consumer got a fair deal from the merchants.

The Cooperative movement was born and it has spread since to cover the greater part of the globe.

In 2008 the Rochdale Rugby League club went into administration after over 130 years of unbroken history.

The fans of Rochdale Hornets then decided to emulate their forefathers and the club was re-born as a Co-Operative club which is wholly owned by the members. This democratically run club is now into its third year of existence and in line with their policy of working with the community this season they have put one fixture aside as a fund-raiser for the mental health charity MENCAP.

Our home, Spotland Stadium, holds approximately 10,000 people and we have challenged ourselves to break the Championship One crowd record against Workington Town on 10th July 2011.

Ticket prices have been slashed and the proceeds go to the charity MENCAP with only £1 per ticket going to the club itself.

Prices are as follows;

Adult - £5.00 with £4.00 going to MENCAP.
Concessions - £3.00 with £2.00 going to MENCAP.

Of course the club would like to see the stadium full for this match but if you want to buy a ticket and are unable to attend this would be just as good.

Please try to support this very worthy cause and help Rochdale Hornets to break the record attendance, for a Championship One fixture as well!

Thanks for your interest.

I'm not sure but I'll let you know. It's easier if you get a ticket though.

Not completely related to this thread, but the Co-Operative are doing a big advertising campaign at the minute....wouldn't it be great if they gave our leagues a bit of a plug in those adverts?

The Co-Op are co sponsoring this match as well Matt. The whole thing is the brainchild of one of our directors who is very prominent in the co-operative movement as well. I might add that Hornets are also pitching for a World Cup tie in 2013. Ideally this would be the Ireland v Fiji game as they wouldn't need a very large capacity but our 10,000 should be enough.
