Which amateur Rugby League side has the biggest bill for the use of its
pitch and changing facilities?

Hunslet Hawkettes, who are preparing for a new season in the
summer-based Co-operative Women’s Rugby League Conference, reckon they
would come top of imaginary table. And, for the sake of the pulse rates
of grassroots volunteers elsewhere, it’s to be hoped they are correct.
The Hawkettes have been asked by Leeds City Council to fork out a
jawdropping £300 per game to play on pitches adjacent to the South
Leeds Stadium. And, to add insult to injury, the enthusiastic lasses
are being billed an extra £80 per training session.
Given that the usual cost, for a full season’s pitch use and changing
facilities is around £750, something seems to be amiss, and the
Hawkettes have asked for an explanation. Amazingly, no rationale answer
seems to be forthcoming.
Mark Marshall, Hunslet Hawks’ Community Development Coach, said: “We’ve not had any proper
answer from the Leeds Parks Department. Their official, Steve Grundy,
just says that’s the cost, and that seems to be it.
“But it’s unsustainable, and we cannot understand it. We have one of
the best Women’s and Girls’ setups in the country, we provide a superb
outlet for young women and girls that sits well with Leeds City
Council’s social and sporting ethos, yet the situation is being made
very difficult for us. It makes no sense.”
Hunslet’s South Leeds Stadium base, only a healthy stone’s throw from
the famous Parkside site, is situated between the Belle Isle and
Middleton estates to the west, and Beeston to the east.
Beeston has been described as having the highest incidence if teenage
pregnancies is the land and Marshall added: “The Hawkettes offer a
vital outlet for unmarried mothers – a facility which sits well with a
recent drive involving the Rugby Football League – while Hunslet Hawks
are planning to launch a Scholarship Scheme for our female teams.
That’s scheme would, of course, offer courses on issues such as sex
education, healthy eating and the misuse of drugs.
“To my mind, the Hawkettes are the kind of project which I’d expect
Leeds City Council to back to the hilt. It’s bewildering that, instead,
the are putting hurdles in the way of the team continuing. We don’t
expect special favours; all we want is to be charged the same rate for
the use of pitches as are other teams in the city.”

Thats disgusting. I'm quite stunned by the level of those costs, to be honest. Unfortunately, its unlikely that the council will see reason and reduce them despite any pleas.
What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

More proof is you need it, that LCC hates any thing to do with Hunslet RL, they would love us to go bust and fck off.

I am so happy I no longer after pay council tax to that load of free loaders, who are the biggest set of a*** holes in the country.

You should lobby the councillors individually at their council surgeries and ask them what they are doing to support the club and fans in their local community, that they were elected to represent. Be civil but forceful. Face to face is much more of a difficult situation for them than to hide behind a letter. Ask for copies of the correspondence if they say they will write for answers to the relevant dept of council. Ask about making a deputation to full council from the supporters trust and put forward our case.

I give this advice as an ex Hunslet councillor.
