I won't say the result for those yet to watch the season opener from the Sydney Football Stadium but what I will say is that this really was a game of Rugby League that had EVERYTHING!!!!
I've just finished watching the Brisbane vs North Queensland game from Suncorp and that wasn't half bad either with both games seeing the result in doubt right up to the very last play the ball.
This is how to start a season.

You couldn't wish for a better curtain raiser to the 2011 NRL season.
The game was superb.
The Rabbitohs look like they'll have a decent season. Their second half performance was thrilling to watch. The Roosters don't look to have lost any of the momentum they'd built up last season.
Great coverage too. The commentary team on this game is just the best RL commentary line up there is.

Fantastic match. Nothing better than a high quality, close game of RL played in front of a big crowd.
Agreed, with the exception of Phil Gould's little comment about Mark Riddell. He said something like Piggy hasn't lost any of his skill despite 2 years in England. Gus's anti-English comments are as bad as some of the anti-Australian comments on this site.Great coverage too. The commentary team on this game is just the best RL commentary line up there is.

Got in from university and settled down to watch the double header. Second half in the Roosters vs Rabbitohs game was superb, fabulous entertainment. Removed the doubts i had that what happened with the Storm last year had stopped me enjoying the game. Great drama and just a great start to the season.
Second game was a different affair but still a decent contest. Thought the Cowboys had thrown the game away with their abysmal defence at the end but Parker let them get away with it. Bowen and Thurston looked back on song though which is always a pleasure to watch.
I know it is early days but i wasn't overly impressed with all 4 teams. Roosters capitulated and seemed to have thought they already had the game won. Defensively they looked poor as did the Rabbitohs.
Broncos seem to have to many young players and not enough experience in their lineup. The Cowboys looked a slight improvement on last year but still didn't look to solid as seen when they nearly gave the game away at the end.
It is early days though to be making judgements.

Broncos did look light . I agree, too much youth and not enough experience. It was Cowboys who made experience pay. All the same, it's early days yet. Broncos new blood could settle down, might take a month or so, wil they be given that time?

Somebody on another forum reckoned Sky are showing it:
"NRL full time to make a return on Thursday 17 March. at 7pm"
Don't know if this is right or not, just passing it on.

Agreed, I thought it was an unnecessary comment a bit of silly one really.

Great game, already sick of Bon Jovi though.
Astute analysis from a Wigan fan:
Rumour going around Headingley that Wire will have to play the second half with 12 men.
It seems that they forgot to bring the half time oranges, and Solomona ate Chris Bridge instead.
Don't know why he was hungry, as he looked as though he had eaten the whole youth team before the game started.

Just watched this match. That would be a cracker any time of the year, let alone a season opener, when teams are supposed to be a little ring-rusty. Superb entertainment.

I watched the Broncos v Cowboys game last night, fantastic game! First hit was huge and Scott Anderson seemed to get the same treatment every touch of the ball. Thurston and Bowen were brilliant.

Went to watch the Storm on Saturday. They looked in brilliant form - I know it's still early, but those who reckoned Storm would finish outside the eight have got it very wrong, IMO.
This season's already shaping up to be a very unpredictable one. Can't wait to see how it unfolds

I think it's the combination of good aggressive coaching staff & a lot of hungry young men looking to cement a 1st grade spot.Went to watch the Storm on Saturday. Agree about the season.I tipped the Knights to finish high in the eight,(before the season began) & was accused of partaking in illicit substances

Agreed. You could also throw in motivation. The events of last year, in particular their titles being stripped, must be a huge motivator for all the players and coaches.I think it's the combination of good aggressive coaching staff & a lot of hungry young men looking to cement a 1st grade spot.
