Just what has an incorrect report on a BBC website got to do with incorrect squad numbers?

The squad numbers thing is daft, there is a provision in the rule book for numbers:

SECTION 4
THE PLAYER AND PLAYERS’ EQUIPMENT

3. For ease of identification, players’ clothing must
bear the numbers 1 to 13 with additional numbers for
the substitutes. The numbers relate to the positions
of the players in their respective teams, these
positions being referred to by name and number as
set out hereunder.
Backs
(1) Full Back
(2) Right Wing Threequarter
(3) Right Centre Threequarter
(4) Left Centre Threequarter
(5) Left Wing Threequarter
(6) Stand-off Half or Five-eighth
(7) Scrum Half
Forwards
(8) Prop
(9) Hooker
(10) Front Row Forward
(11) Second Row Forward
(12) Second Row Forward
(13) Lock Forward

makes a No. 32 seem kinda odd really.

To clarify the rules concerning the numbering on players shirts which changed at the start of the 2010 season and continue into this season and are now as follows:

All players' jerseys shall be the registered colours and (unless otherwise provided for by B1:29 and B1.30 below) numbered 1 to 17 and in any case the numbers must be clearly defined figures to be not less than 23 cm in height and which must be clearly visible and must stand out from the surrounding background which may necessitate placing the number on a patch.

B1.30 As regards the Championships only, before the commencement of each Season Players who are in a Club’s initial first team squad should be allocated a squad number in numerical order starting at 1 without leaving any gaps. Once a number has been allocated that number should be worn by that player at all times for every first team fixture that season. If a player leaves during the season his squad number cannot be reallocated and once a player has been given an allocated number, they may not change squad numbers in that Season. Additional permanent members of the first team squad should be issued the next consecutive number. Squad numbers 31 to 40 are allocated as ‘unnamed’ shirts. These shirts can be worn by players who may not be expected to be regular members of the nominated first team squad for instance players on loan or on trial. A player may only play in an unnamed shirt up to a maximum of FOUR first team games. After which that player must be allocated a permanent squad number. There is no limit on the amount of players who may play in an unnamed shirt throughout the course of the season.

It is not just a matter any more of doling out shirts 1 to 17 on game day as each shirt is also sized to the individual numbered player. With the old 1 to 17 system you could end up with, say, Wayne English playing centre in Damien Reid's normal shirt which would drown him, or Craig Johnson in Andy Saywell's tent?
Woody was de-registered as his injury came before the registration deadline and can be re-allocated, but Ryan Powell's No14 and maybe Gaz Hayes No19 cannot as they were registered in those numbers!
Unfortunately there was a supply issue at the start of the year which caused the issue of shirts to players with names blanked out because it was the size of the shirt that was paramount.
Peronally I prefer the idea of squad numbers as I think it helps the supporters and media reporters to familiarise themselves with the individual players quickly from the start and the duration of a season, however the players name on the shirt does create more expense to the smaller clubs on tighter budget!

I have no idea Puggie as I was attending the training session and was just correcting Arabella's quote from the 2002 operating manual.

Lets be honest by 20mins in to the game the lads were that full of mud
I struggled to tell who they were and legs dont look same covered in mud
as for the someone who wrote the scorers seems that they were not at game
Didnt it happen with another game of our games the whole team and coach WRONG
Main thing is them that wear the shirts played at their best and these past wks dont
think anyone can argue with that
