Why is there a unicorn on our badge?
The Workington Town RLFC Crest incorporates the Unicorn which represents the Curwen Family formerly of Curwen Hall and many of the symbols relating to the Town itself. The Furness symbolising the Steel Works, the Plough acknowledging the farming community, and the Ship representing the Port of Workington. The motto itself means May your Town and Castle Flourish.

The only thing I can add to what others have said is that it is only in the last, what 20 or so years, that clubs have started wearing the badges on their strips other than at Wembley finals. If you look at all the photos of Towns Lancashire Cup Finals there was no badge on the strips.
The badge is the Workington Borough badge and is made up of the different aspects as others have already said. Now most clubs either have a club badge or like us their town badge on the strips. Why the unicorn? Other than it was from the Curwen family badge, I haven't a clue!!!

I remember when .............................
"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.
