On average how many times does he utilise the word utilise in a commentary? It's becoming almost as annoying and inane as "skill factor" and "merry whistle blower".
Also why does Eddie use the word "hack" to describe a punt?

He threw in his old favourite "they need to go for the one pointer"

Stop knocking Stevo peeps, he's great
I'm actually being serious. When you listen to the 'say what you see' drivel spouted by commentators in other sports, you realise that he's genuinely very good at what he does.
What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

My missus said last night that if this was they the presentation/commentary was going then I was going to have to watch in silence.
I didn't mind.
Personally I thought it was SSSSSuperp, and SSSSSenSSSSSational.

Agree.
I found this in the ITV commentary manual;
When commentating the following format must always be used at every incident;
If only that was onside/in the rules/in the field of play/over the line (delete where appropriate), then it would of been the most incredible goal/tackle/save/ (delete where appropriate), you would have ever seen today/in your life/ this last couple of minutes (delete where appropriate). And he's only 21/45/one legged (delete where appropriate) and this is his 1st/25th/400th appearance for the club(delete where appropriate), in this(these) particular strip/stadium/weather conditions/pair of boots (delete where appropriate) before such a large crowd/TV audience/ number of scouts/ dignitaries (delete where appropriate), in this world cup game/champions league qualifier/ pointless outing. Repeat.

Before posting I thought about this in great detail.............. Many a time, I've joined in slating him.... but on this occasion, I'm posting a mature response.
We all love our Rugby, have a good knowledge of the game etc etc.
We understand the basics of the game
So, put yourself in the shoes of the "NEW" fans we need in our game and then understand what Stevo is commentating on.
Stevo is clearly a clever person, wanting that little bit extra in every play, New fans can only get excited / enjoy his commentary waiting for the one pointer, the dink over the top.
He annoys us all, as we KNOW THE GAME, but the neutral HOW GOOD IS HE??

What's more annoying than Stevo? People complaining about him every week. He's not even that bad. If you don't like the sky commentary, mute it.

It's the constant references to "rugby league football" which get me. Yeah, I know the full name of the sport is as he says it, but even though people still go to work on omnibuses, the language has moved on a bit. Rugby will do Stevo......and it will save your voice a bit

Anyone remember the "Boycott Bingo" cards that some radio listener sent in to Test Match Special? We should have "Stevo Bingo" cards - all of his most familiar cliches in one place.
"Try for mine"
"I'd put my house on that"
"Momentum rule"
"Go for the one-pointer"
"Try the little chip over the defence"
"X goes for the big hit!"
"Merry whistleblower"
"Utilise"
"Skill factor"
"Claret flowing"
"Bit of biff"
Etc etc. There must be loads more.

"Bald" would be a better descriptive word. Also why does Eddie use the word "hack" to describe a punt?
Oh I see, sorry, my bad reading.
On 13/2/2013, Hull City's owners the Allams, released a statement in their position as the owners of the KC Stadium Management Committee. One line in this statement read as follows....
"The SMC's principal responsibility is to remain neutral"

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

"Will he do the link"
"He's got the shopping cart, but not the shopping"
That's the most mental one in my humble.
That said, I have the utmost respect for the man who has steadfastly championed the sport for the last 20 years on Sky and will go to his grave demanding a one pointer or a little chip over the top.
