Italia Cup battles set for Rome as former NRL player joins the Italia RFL


The inaugural Italia Rugby Football League Coppa Italia draws to an exciting climax in Rome on March 20, as the remaining four teams battle it out in the semi finals to earn a spot in the Final and the title of Cup Champions. The two Semi-Finals and Final will be played at the prestigous field of Hotel La Borghesiana, in which the Italian Football (Soccer) and Rugby Union national teams prepare and train at before internationals in Rome – with now the Italia RFL joining such company

The Coppa Italia Rugby a XIII Finals kick off in 3 hours at Rome's - Campo Hotel La Borghesiana,

The four teams left are: Briganti "Bandits" Librino XIII (in Catania, Sicilia), Etruschi Perugia XIII (Umbria region - Central Italy), Fenice "Phoenix" Belpasso (10km NW of Catania) and (Porta Portese) Rugby Roma 2000.

The 2 Central Italian clubs left are aligned under 2010 Italia RFL Champions - Gladiators Roma Rugby League

The 2 Sicilian clubs are aligned under Spes Spartans Catania Rugby League

Keep up the good work. Has the Italian rugby union victory over France last week made it in the news or was shown on free to air TV?

Here in Australia - I believe it didn't and I did not have the opportunity to watch it... But looked at the highlights. In Italy, of course it was big.
Still let's hope as Rugby League grows, the fans will get just as much enjoyment with the XIII, due to the fast paced and entertainment value compared with Union. But generally Italians like all "oval"..

Also at least 2 players have won "the double" with Italia RFL. Winning the top tier "CAMPIONATO" with Gladiators Roma Rugby League and winning the "COPPA" with Etruschi Perugia XIII (they play amateur rugby with Perugia Rugby, therefore had the opportunity to play in the Coppa as well).

Some interesting comments from some of the players (all 3 have had the opportunity to play 2010 Campionato and 2011 Coppa - they played in 3 different Coppa sides):

Player 1 - the more game, the more I realize that I'm in the wrong code of rugby ... LEAGUE FOREVER!

Player 1 - I'm looking forward to this summer, FORZA GLADIATORS!

Player 2 - I too have the same feelings as you ... league forever!

Player 3 - great....... league all your life!
