I am correct in thinking that all Swinton membership card holders will get in the game for free?

Don't think so. It appears Super League clubs have this round of the Challenge Cup factored into their season tickets, whereas clubs from the Championship and Championship One had the last round factored in. Thus the East Hull game was covered for Swinton Lions members, but members will need to pay at all subsequent matches in the Cup starting with Dewsbury.

I guess the idea is that the professional / semi-professional sides are guaranteed at least one match in the Challenge Cup, at the stage when they enter the competition.

As Swinton Lions know only too well, there is no guarantee of victory against the amateur sides in the previous round! Not to mention the sides that are unlucky enough to draw another semi-pro team (eg Workington this year) or one of the French sides and therefore have a tougher assignment.

Not sure how this arrangement is carried through into the gate receipts, which traditionally were shared 50/50 by the home and away sides when the normal approach was "all pay". Perhaps one effect of these season ticket conditions is that drawing a Super League club at this stage is no longer particularly lucrative. Now perhaps you have to hope to survive to the next round and only then can you get a "big" pay day if drawing a well supported side.

Another case of the RFL bringing chaos to something that used to be simple. And in the process helping widen the gap between the "haves" and the "have nots" a little bit more. Maybe. But it is clear as ditchwater. Nothing new there then!
Rugby League - great game, shame about the administration.

It's really a rule that has come back and bit Halifax since they've drawn Bradford at the Shay which currently has a capacity of 6,500 (with one stand closed due to health and safety) and Bradford have around 12,000 season ticket holders!

To be fair there won't be much difference as Tansey didn't do much for us.

I like it! "Snap" is a good old fashioned bit of North country parlance, predominantly used by coal miners both sides of the Pennines in times gone by. Men would eat their "snap" underground at dinnertime from their snap tins, maybe butties, cheese and a piece of fruit.

The only explanation of the new system that I've been able to find relates to Oldham's match at Hull:

http://www.cbsport.o...er-quit-oldham/

"Oldham’s fourth-round Carnegie Challenge Cup tie at Hull will be played at the KC Stadium on Saturday, May 7 with a 1pm kick-off.

Hull’s army of season-ticket holders – nearly 9,000 of them – will get in free, as did Oldham’s to the third-round tie against amateurs Hunslet Warriors at Whitebank.

To compensate for that arrangement, driven by the RFL in a move to boost attendances in early rounds, Roughyeds will get a fixed participation fee on top of their half share of match-day receipts after Hull have taken out their expenses. Oldham’s junior season-ticket holders will also get free admission.

Ticket prices, still under discussion by both clubs, will be announced soon."

So its as I thought - the non-Super League clubs lose out yet again!!!

I must say if the first half of the Hunslet v Dewsbury match is anything to go by i fancy our chances of progression!! Handling very poor, lots of penalties and no class about them. Maybe just maybe swinton have a bigger chance than we think!!

What with our current form you most certainly have! Hope to see plenty of you there on Sunday, you will be most welcome.

I just hope that we don't do the same as we did against Oldham a few seasons ago, but turn up this time & give you a game! That particular game was so bad for us Oldham looked like a Super League side against us and the press & sponsors couldn't give Dewsbury a MoM!

Who ever goes through (fingers crossed it's red amber & black :D  ) they get a decent money spinner next round.

I think we'll give them more than a run for their money! Swinton to pip it 30-26. And I'm hoping Watto will be making a surprise appearance too.

Dewsbury are a good team and they are always big so we should pick as big a pack as possible.so I think that starting line up fits the bill given injuries etc. Id give Ashall a run at scrum half with Pogo Paterson ready to replace him a couple of times during the game.

Judging from Steve McCormack's recent quotes it seems most likely Lee Patterson will replace Watson, difficult to come into a big game with little or no preparation but this is his big opportunity.

Gallagher will probably be fired up for this, ought to be fresher than most, so I'd stick him in from the start and make sure he has support runners either side as often as possible - for that purpose I would also put Ashall in from the start as you need a pacey nippy type in the middle to make the most of Gallagher's ability to commit men to him and get the ball away.

Wilson has been very effective used as an impact player off the bench, so I'd keep him in that role.

To get the win every man needs to raise his game a few % points, discipline needs to be spot on, no sloppy 20 minute spell as has happened in most of the games so far. Most important of all is the need to respect possession and defend well one-on-one. Give nothing away through silly errors / penalties. Quite a narrow pitch so if the Lions are up for the challenge it could develop into a tight game. The sort of performance that was put in against Gateshead and the Skolars would be nowhere near good enough, but the Lions have the capability to make a game of it.

My side would be: Mort; Foxen, Thompson, D Hawkyard, Dodd; Ainscough, Ashall; Morrison, Smith, Holland, Wingfield, Gallagher, Joseph. SUBS Patterson, Flooks, Cunniffe, Wilson
