To play England perhaps. There is certainly enough antopedeans on Humberside to simply call them the ANZACS anyway.

Sadly I've run out of my quota of negative votes already.http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/hull-fc/hull_proposal_would_test_england_squad_1_3228047

Well the way both teams are playing at the moment, there wouldn't be any Club v Country conflict

It's a proposal by Neil Hudgell not a cast iron concept.

It's a proposal by Neil Hudgell not a cast iron concept.
I'd have thought any sort of a merger would be anathema to Hudgell and the fans, Thin end of the wedge sort of thing.
Talking about ends of the wedges Mr. Hudgell has pretty much got the thick end of plenty of wedges in his ambulance chasing accident compo business.
However Tory proposals that are almost certain to be put in place soon will heavily limit the legal fees paid alongside compensation, such that it's the end of the gravy train for those that profit from the current awful system.
How far Mr. Hudgells bankrolling of Rovers reported to be £3M so far at the start of the season may have to be curtailed I don't know.
How far these two major events "let's merge" and "whoops they're chucking me off the gravy train" have anything to do with each other I don't know.

“I think it would prove to be a very powerful image of the strength of the game in the city, as well as having a commercial value to it.”
I thnk his last comment is the most telling one. He's looking to make some money off the back of it. Rule should tell him where to go. A combined Hull team used to play the Aussie and Kiwi tourists and they last played in the eighties when PNG toured.

Strength? The clubs are full of old Aussies and have lost most of their games this season, maybe the "strength" he speaks of is in the size of the audience for RL in the city?
But as we have found out from other merger threads, people will not watch a merged team. Hull fans do not eat streaky bacon and Rovers fans do not suck humbugs.

They suck lemons instead.

Typo corrected. One club is full of Aussies.
"I don't see what all the fuss is about. I mean, it's only fair after last year isn't it? Look Neil, just for you, I've put my best Rovers' tie on today in the hope it'll go some way to make up for it. Oh, by the way, Jon sends his regards."

Apologies, one club is full of Aussies, the other full of vibrant young Hull talent from your local hotbed.
How are Briscoe and Houghton these days?
Hudgell has just appointed a "business development manager" which isn't always a good sign, if you bump into someone with a clipboard in Hull town centre who asks you if you have had an accident say hello to him from me....

Come on Parky, if you're going to make an effort at sarcasm, you should at least do a bit of homework first.Apologies, one club is full of Aussies, the other full of vibrant young Hull talent from your local hotbed.

Danny Houghton is indeed a vibrant young Hull talent however, Tom Briscoe is a Fev lad.
You have also overlooked Horne, Washbrook, Yeaman and Lyne at Hull, Wheeldon and Hodgson at Hull KR and Mike Burnett at Quins, all products of Hull FC's youth set up.
Hull also have four or five other local youngsters in their 2011 squad, yet to make their debut.
Not as many as I'd like, but better than some teams, none the less.

It must have been a Danny Houghton namesake who I saw playing for Hull Boys' Club when he was about eight then.

Yes I take the point on Briscoe but it doesn't make the Hull/HKR youth situation any better, and besides the Yeamans and Hornes have been around a long time.
I've always said it won't help the Hull clubs having both of them chasing the same limited young local talent, but the reply has always been it's a hotbed of talent - enough for two SL clubs.
Sarcasm aside we'll have to see, but you may understand the point. I think all the vibrant teams in SL are so because they mix overseas quality with local quality. The two Hull clubs are far from vibrant lately.
And it's some years since Hull were on the up, then along came HKR but of course there's no connection.

Why does it have to be LOCAL talent? Football doesn't dwell on the fact that next to no one in the Premiership is actually from the area of the team whose shirt they wear. As long as SLE teams can nurture ENGLISH talent then I don't give a toss if they are from Hull, John O'Groats or Penzance.

I'd guess that if they were from John O'Groats they'd be considered Scottish.
Don't mind me.
Astute analysis from a Wigan fan:
Rumour going around Headingley that Wire will have to play the second half with 12 men.
It seems that they forgot to bring the half time oranges, and Solomona ate Chris Bridge instead.
Don't know why he was hungry, as he looked as though he had eaten the whole youth team before the game started.
