Northampton sound like an excellent side. How long have they been going? What is the set up like and where have all the players come from?

They started in the London League in 2007 then stepped up to the RLC in 2008. They weren't actually any good til 2009 when they suddenly became really good. Last year they changed their name from Northampton Casuals to Northampton Demons. Most junior age groups they have 2 teams and are very well run. Definitely a club to watch out for IMO.

St Albans also look to be a shadow of 2010s team

I hope our trial game against Leicester next week doesn't have a similar result

Where did they get the influx of players from in 2009? Sounds like a cracking little club! I haven't seen him play yet but there are some decent reports about Dan Brotherton at Saints.

I'd guess they got them from RU but not certain

St Albans also look to be a shadow of 2010s team

So far this season we haven't been able to play more than eight or nine first teamers in any of our pre season games. Three of last season team are playing semi pro union in France, and about half a dozen of our players get paid for playing for union teams on Saturdays in London/Herts, so until these lads come back, I don't think we will be looking like the 2010 team.

The Northampton result is not the result I thought it would be. But I don't think it will reflect the season to come. Have heard good things about Northampton and seen that they have a good club set up. I've been away for a week and got an email from someone at the club about the game, seems Northampton were fit and very fast. He commented how fast their backs were, which is where they hammered us. The only thing he could say in Cents favour was we only played with 5 or 6 first teamers, the rest being juniors and reserves, including a couple playing league for the first time. However, you can only play the team thats in front of you, so no excuses. Well done Northampton.

Got to say I agree with Exiled Townie as both clubs brought development sides and there's no way we'd have put 56 on the 2010 side. We got hammered by Cents last season by 50 when I thought we'd win so it is weird how things happen and our 3 chunky props will be well chuffed at been called fit.

Believe it or not Northampton are in a development period this season regarding players having lost 10 first teamers (and more importantly regular dedicated trainers) in the last 12 months and only put out 3 players on Satuarday that won the 2010 regional final, the rest were either last years academy or new debuts to the side. We do have some lads to come back although none with RU semi pro pedigree.

Cents will be a massive force this season and anyone who writes them off will make a mistake - a friendly is just that and it means nothing in reality.

Thanks to St Albans for having us, they are a top class bunch of lads.
