After Yorkshire's stunning win today, I tried to think of any player who played both codes at a top level, there were a number of football players who played both cricket and football professionally but I couldn't think of any cricket or RL Players....Are there any that come to mind?

I think David Mycoe had a distinguished cricket ability at junior level whilst also playing RL but I may well be wrong. I remember he was a great bowler when he played at Whitely Woods for an Eagles cricket team in Daryl Powell's Testimonial Match/Year

He might have had a leg before and bowled a maiden over, on occasions....However, I have Googled him and not found a Cricket Scoresheet for him, perhaps a little Dicky Bird might know the answer, him and Ronnie are both top notch arbitrators from Barnsley and Ronnie did a good job yesterday at Derbyshire CC favourite venue....Hint for a promo there....9 goals dommi...do your stuff!!!!

David Mycoe was a good cricketer and could possibly have played professionally if he had chosen to go down that route.
Just after he signed for the Eagles, he won a Throwing the Cricket Ball competition by throwing the ball 20 yards farther than anyone else, into some bushes at the far end of the ground.

A young Mr Aston once got 70 in a Howden Evening League game playing for Cliffe against Selby Olympia.

For older readers,I understand Tony Nicholson, Yorkshire seamer in the 60's and 70's, played League at a reasonable level but I don't think he played for any of the big clubs.

Martin Offiah played for Essex 2nd eleven, former Wigan hooker John Gray was on Warwickshires books,i think former Saints half back Jonathon Griffiths played cricket for Wales, Billy Boston played a good level of local league cricket in the rugby league close season. I believe Aussie cricket legend Ray Lindwall also played in two grand finals for St.George, it was always said that Don Bradman could have made the grade in league he played at school and was apparently a quality full back.

but remembered this from lad on the news from my junior years -Chris Balderstone
Balderstone made history in 1975 by taking part in a County Championship match and a Football League game on the same day. Balderstone was 51 not out against Derbyshire at the end of day two of Leicestershire's match at Chesterfield. After close of play he changed into his football kit to play for Doncaster Rovers in an evening match 30 miles away (a 1-1 draw with Brentford). He then returned to Chesterfield the following morning to complete a century and take three wickets to help wrap up Leicestershire's first ever County Championship title.
