Every year we hear complaints from players and coaches, saying how the intensity of the modern game makes it unreasonable for sides to play twice in the space of 4 days over Easter.

Perhaps it is a bit of a throw back, and probably more about keeping the accountants happy than looking after the players. BUT if its the same for everyone, at least there is fairness.

The Easter programme for Championship One is plain unfair on some teams.

Swinton Lions are set to benefit, with no game on Good Friday followed by a trip to Doncaster on the Monday. However, Donny have to travel to Gateshead on Good Friday. Not exactly fair on Donny.

Also spare a thought for Workington, who probably face the toughest assignment of all. They are sure to give everything to win the local derby with Whitehaven on Good Friday - those games are almost always a good tussle. Then on Easter Monday, Workington face a trip to Keighley for a game that may prove to be crucial come the end of the season. In the meantime, Keighley don't have a match on Good Friday! So Keighley will face Workington after an 8 day rest.

Madness.

Rugby League - great game, shame about the administration.

Whoever said "life was fair".
It's about time we got a little luck in the fixture department.

What balances out for us is that we don't have a home game until May 27th!

We're playing Whitehaven away twice this season due to Blackpool's demise so it's not all good.

No-one seems to know why your game with Keighley was switched very early in the season to 7th August when there are no other Ch1 games scheduled. I've asked on your forum and on Keighley's and no-one has been able to give an answer. It is very unfair to some clubs especially Town and our extra matches this season are Oldham (H) and Doncaster (A) so we got the short straw there as well.

*** Just answering my own question here as I have just checked the fixture list again on the RFL site and the Swinton v Keighley match is now shown as Thursday, 4th August 2011, at 7.30pm, so it looks like that match is going to be on Sky. (Sky running Ch1 now as well!!!)

I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

I think we'd rather have that than Whitehaven away twice! With the league being so close as expected any slip or advantage to another team could make a massive difference by the time of promotion or play-offs comes. The RFL could end up having a big influence on who gets promoted by the draw of who replaces the Blackpool fixtures.
