Nothing should surprise you when it comes to Willie Mason.
He appeared to be willing to bust a gut to get a passport to play for Hull KR.
It was said he's signed a three year contract with the Hull club to play in Super League.

Now he's supposed to have met up with Toulon folk and is thought to be opting for the French club.
English RU Test star Jonny Wilkinson is already playing for Toulon, and Springboks' Bakkies Botha will join the side next year.
So Willie changes codes and follows the French Franc, sorry Euro.

Yes, that's right that's the same French club that SBW went to when he swapped codes. SBW now at Canterbury RU - but speculation is he might return to Toulon!

So is this true? Is it speculation?

Rumours, rubbish or what?

Apparently Willie Mason's all important new Tongan passport hasn't arrived in Hull yet!

Who cares? Anybody who has Sam Ayoub as manager is not to be trusted, but in any case playing ra ra would suit Mason down to a tee;with four extra players on the park,he`s got more chances to hide. The Tongan passport thing is a joke,Tonga is still part of the Commonwealth as far as I can recall,so what`s the difference between that and an Aussie or a Kiwi one? Hull KR will be better off long term without Big Willie,so good riddance.

They want him to play in the centres  That's my dose of comedy for the day. Two words - 'defensive liability' - spring to mind. Overall though it's great for Hull KR. They can spend their big Willie money on someone who isn't an overrated, over the hill, trouble making 'Tongan'. They could even buy a good player or invest in some youth.

I'm no rah rah fan but isn't Inside Centre a playmaking role of sorts? Willie Mason - five-eighth is even funnier

What a shambles.
The guy came here with a fanfare. The alarm bells should have been ringing instead though.
The business over his arranging a passport of convenience for one thing.
Hull KR put their desire for success above their common sense.
Their reward? Well this passport has not materialised, a bit like Harry Potter's cloak of invisibility.
Oh and Mason apparently going behind their backs speaking to a French RU club.
Hull KR turning back to Michael Dobson makes sense to them. They're lucky he's still around.

This is just an embarrassment that makes everyone concerned, apart from Dobson, look like a shambles.
The sooner SL walks the walk not talks the talk over player development the better. However difficult finances are they still push the boat out for overseas 'stars' some of whom have less twinkle than they should have..
Well this massive Mason move to HKR looks more and more like the voyage of theTitanic every day.

Story went quiet after he was de-registered by Hull KR and supposedly moving to France next RU season.

I wondered if any SL club would show any interest in Mason.

Sure enough, Bradford Bulls seem to be in need of a quick fix and have expressed an initial interest in working something out with him eg a loan spell.
Clever move, or stupid?
