Oldham have received help from the RFL (they let us play at Whitebank for a start) and there is an RFL fund for ground development that we can tap into in the future. As for Hornets, the RFL acquired their share in the ground in an effort to keep RL going in Rochdale. I applaud them for that and have no problems with a professional club renting a suitable facility in their town whoever the owners are. It doesn't give Hornets an unfair advantage - they're the same as any club who don't own their own ground, they are merely fortunate that the RFL were able to acquire a stake in a tidy facility in their town.
Oldham need to get there own house in order with regards to facilities, because the reality is that it doesn't matter what anybody else does if we are still playing in a "stadium" as basic as Whitebank.
Step 1 is to get "all" of the ground / land into one ownership and the council don't seem to have been able to manage that in nearly 12 months since we moved in. CH suggested a while ago he expected it sorted within a few weeks - but it's all gone quiet. Perhaps Crown Estates have no desire to sell, in which case we can hardly make "Queenie" sell if she doesn't want to or can we? Can the Council CPO the land as required for development? Probably not as technically in greenbelt so shouldn't be developed. Wish we had some clarity from the club on where this is going, accept it may be commercially sensitive, but if at least we could see a way forward and what the plans are for development going forward it would help.
As far as Hornets are concerned, I don't have a problem with it either. They are tenants in a stadium and pay a rent, who they pay it to doesn't matter.
