The shock sacking of Matt Elliott as Panthers' coach was annouced today.
Shock? Well at least the players were shocked according to Petero.
Instead of the immediate push through the door though he'll be at the club as coach until the end of the season which has more than 2/3 of it still to go. Wouldn't it be funny if Panthers form turned right round under Elliott, they finished in the top 8 and won the premiership. Posted Image

Hey, stranger things have happened!

Wonder if Panthers would have Lang back? He might be available shortly unless he goes back upstairs at Bunnies.

The biggest shock for me is that he's stayed on this long!!! Nearly every year there's a rumour that he's been close to being shown the door. It puts Elliott in a potentially awkward position - coaching a team for another 5 months knowing he's not wanted next year. Reading elsewhere on t'internet there seems to be a lot of criticism of the way the club is run, from the board down.

As for a successor, Nathan Brown seems to be the favourite. His wife has just given birth, and has said he'll decide his future within the next 4 weeks. Apparently there was a veiled reference on The Sunday Footy Show about Brown Junior growing up to play for the Panthers.

I thought John Lang was retiring. Watching him on the sidelines when the Rabbitohs play, his blood pressure would certainly appreciate the rest.

Yes, Lang always looks like he might explode in a blast of blood and guts any minute.

If the players were 'shocked' by the sacking then their position on the ladder is well deserved

The coach takes responsibility, fair enough, but the players are the ones on the park.

As a Penrith supporter i was overjoyed to see Elliot sacked its about time 1 Finals appearence in 5 years is woeful I have never liked his coaching style but I do agree with the assesment that the responsibilty does lie with the players as well.

As for a new coach I would hate to see Nathan Brown come in I am not a fan at all I have heard many names linked with the job such as Stuart, Hasler, Gould, Anderson and any of those would be much better than Brown.

Get the feeling that Tim Sheens is in the frame for the job.

Not Lang or Gould.

How about Freddie Fittler in a return to Penrith Stadium? That'd be interesting...

So that's why Tim Sheens was keeping tight lipped about if he'd been made a big offer to go to coach Panthers - he had - but he'd had a competing offer to stay where he is.

Who'll take the Panther's job then now? There's obviously BIG money there for the right person.

Petero could apparently lead a players revolt against the board:-

Weird that the photo of the two surfers should be put at the top of the RL article.
When Petero was interviewed on camera he was careful in what he said and implied he and the players understood what had happened.
Maybe his initial upset reaction to the news was closer to the reality.
