Probably the only person who would know this is Stephen Wild, and as now we are in double figures some lunatic should ask.

What is the club record for wins in a row, both pre- and post 1995? Are we getting close?

Not trying to put the pressure on the players or anything

We won 17 on the spin to win the title in 1963, but I don't know if that's the club record.

Steve???????????????????

"--- and then on the eighth day, God created Rugby League."

Daily, my intense dislike of the Pinks, Rugby Yawnion, Manchester United, and far-right politics, grows ever larger, and will continue to do so forever more!

Question! What's the connection between Rugby League and Rugby Yawnion? Answer! There isn't one!

My girl-friend said to me "If you had to choose between me and Swinton who would it be?" I replied "You know the answer to that one without even asking!"

I'll bet almost anything Spelly's right about the 1963 run in which brought the RL Championship title to Station Road.

The Supporter's Club ran a coach or two to all the away matches and a group of us went. after the Lions had won 5-6, we all agreed that we would not miss a game for any reason, so as to not jinx the winning run! Also, if on our way we saw a business with the name Parkinson in it, we knew we would win! George Parkinson, of course.

Of course George got to operate from around a real scrum!

Sorry, Spelly, couldn't resist!

The answer to this question is in the back of my book under Appendix D.

Our longest unbeaten run (under Rugby League rules) was 25 matches. This spanned the 1899/1900 and 1900/1901 seasons, during which time we won the Challenge Cup and came near to winning the league the following year (literally robbed by Oldham following an abandoned & replayed game). This included 18 league wins and 7 cup wins.

In 1962/63 we did indeed win our last 17 games to win the league (18 unbeaten, which includes a draw prior to the run of wins). However, we also won the first 4 games of 1963/64 making a total of 22 games unbeaten.

In the Rugby Union era we we twice went 23 games unbeaten (85/6 to 86/7 plus 87/8 to 88/9); and we also went 34 unbeaten between Oct 1881 and Feb 1883. HOWEVER, the all-time record goes back to the THREE consecutive seasons (1875/6, 1876/7 and 1877/8), when we remained unbeaten for AT LEAST 40 games. Sadly, although I have definite confirmation that the Lions were undefeated, my match by match records for this period are incomplete. Incidentally, it was as a result of this run that the landlord of the Dog Inn in Swinton renamed it "The Football".

Our longest unbeaten runs in our promotion years of 84/5, 86/7 and 90/1 were surprisingly only 8, 8 and 7.

Just to confirm, this is league games, yes? Which would mean our current winning run stands at 9?

Now that is what i call comprehensive.

Thank you Steve.

Thanks Steve, I should've looked in the book first. Serves me right for asking!
