Hornets really are the trendsetters

After Hemel Stags Chairman Bob Brown contacted Hornets Chairman Mark Wynn last week to seek advice on becoming a supporter owned co-operative after seeing the Hornets model, two more clubs have made the same phone call!

Firstly Stefan Hopewell Chairman of Mancunians RL called to arrange to meet with Hornets officials as they are looking at following Hornets lead and becoming a Trust run club.
The Mancunians are aiming to enter the Championship in 2015 and want to adopt the Co-operative structure we use here at Hornets.

The next call came from the Coventry Bears who again have seen the Hornets model and are keen to follow that route.
Officials from the Coventry club will be attending our Challenge Cup tie with Castleford as they look at how a supporter owned and run club operates.
Both Hemel and Coventry are looking at entering Championship1 as early next season.

Hornets are very proud of the fact that these clubs look at Rochdale Hornets as the "best practice model" for clubs wishing to move up to the professional game.
Every Hornets member can take great satisfaction from the knowledge that the club they own is held in such regard.

When St Helens and Wigan or even an existing league club such as Whitehaven (who have recently reformed) look to consider this model come back and tell us how good it is........

No coincidence in the calibre of the clubs considering this model me thinks

Whithaven fans did look at this model but members of the previous board put in a better offer and given the time scale the supporters trust decided to work with them.

As far as i am aware the only other bid to set up a club in Rochdale was from The Dale and the rugby football league choose the supporters option, even though we keep hearing from other sources that there are lots of people willing to put money into the club, if not for current board members being involved.I have to ask why did these people not come forward then.

The model choosen by Hornets is a good workable model but needs all sides to work together to get the best out of it,but if not it can still be done with the dedicated and profesional people running the club.

For a co-operative to work it needs the co-operation of all.
Success does not consists in never making blunders, but in never making the same one the second time.
