WELCOME

to NRL ROUND 9

Posted Image

This week half of the teams have byes. There are just four games to tip this weekend therefore.
They all take place on Saturday Sunday or Monday. Friday sees the ANZAC test between the Kangaroos and the Kiwis and the NSW trial game between City and Country.
There's more information on these games in other threads.
So I guess that predicting the results will be even more of a challenge than usual as the teams that are playing will have a number of players involved in the rep games.
We've had new entrants the last two weeks so it's great to see that people reading this realise that we do welcome everyone to take part at whatever point in the season.
If you are not sure what to do, just look at previous competitions we've run this season so far.
Right, let's get on ...

Everyone reading this is welcome to take up the challenge whether you've entered previously or not.

ROUND 9 QUESTIONS:

*Poll Competition:
Let's gauge the scale of points scoring in the forthcoming round. Maybe team changes will see more opportunities to put the ball down over the line.:
Poll Question:
How many teams will score 30 or more points in Round 9?
- enter in the poll itself at the top and put it in your posting. (The poll is anonymous so we can't give you credit unless it is in your predictions post)
...And now the main event of the week:
*Match Tipping Competition:
Name the 4 (that's FOUR) winning teams in NRL Round 9 2011
*Points Competition

How many points will be scored by all the teams added together in R9?
This is a competition in itself and will act as a tie breaker for the match tipping comp if necessary. This is used as the decider when necessary so do give it a go.
*Home Win Competition:
How many HOME wins will there be in NRL R9 2011?
In rounds where the game is on the road and played at a neutral venue, the team named first in the fixture will be regarded as the home team for the purposes of this competition.

Animated awards will be given for the winner(s) of each competition question.
Match tipping scores will be added together as the season progresses to produce a Tipsters' Ladder which will be pinned to the top of the forum topic list page.
So ... there's your challenge for this week. As I said above, new entrants are always welcome: entering the comp is a great way to get involved in every game of the NRL this season.
The best of luck to everyone

This week is officially raised to the status of "tricky".

Byes ... Rep footy ( City/Country), Anzac test.

Team changes aplenty.
Some players backing up, some not ... but who????

This sort of round usually turns up results separate from form and expectancy.

Tip: why not work out who should win using logic and skill, then go for the other teams? Posted Image

Great first game of the round in the clash between Broncos with some young talent on show after resting their rep players and Storm who did play their rep players.
The Broncos pushed Storm hard in a terrific game. Broncos spilled the ball too often in the first half but improved their hold over the ball in the second half. They pulled level with just about ten minutes left.
In the end it was the experienced Storm outfit that showed their fitness and finished off with a flurry, a testament to their attitude and commitment.

Storm always had the edge for me, but the effforts of Wallace, Parker, Beale and Reed were impressive in front of a massive 34,000+ crowd in Brisbane.
Today it was Cronk who probably took the headlines with a try and then the important field goal when the scores were level. Quin'ns touchdown in the final minute improved the scoreline for Melbourne but the
young Broncos came agonisingly close to a victory which wasn't to be.

For Storm, the experience of Cam Smith, Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater were invaluable though Billy had some moments he'd prefer to forget in the game.
Widdop was again threatening, but perhaps the improvement I saw in the forwards in this match over one or two performances this season was the most pleasing aspect. Norrie and Bromwich were great and Woolnough had the best game I've seen him play this season.
Ryan Hinchcliffe completed a wonderful weekend with a try on the half hour mark.

Well done Broncos and Storm for putting on an entertaining and very competitive game. Top quality rugby league for many players who'd already played a rep game the day before.
