Some interesting decisions made by some refs in R8.
Refs bosses have apparently decided the worst error was committed by video ref Paul Simpkins who watched Jamie Lyon drop the ball a number of times on replay and then called it a knock on even though the ball went backward.
This has now been called wrong by his bosses who have seen what most of us saw at the time: that the ball went backward. He's be stood down for it. I've seen other similar decisions made though when the action of the ball loser was forward even though the ball went backward. This puts out a message that whatever the action the question is does the ball go forward or not?
So we'll get consistency and common sense in decisions from now on by refs won't we?

I must be honest and say I thought it was a knock on as well. I've always thought more emphasis should be placed on the fact that the player has lost control of the ball, rather than worrying about what direction it's gone in.

When it's marginal, I agree. When it's obviously backwards, the rule says play on.
