It's the small stretch of sand and treacherous cliff face where young soldiers were killed but a legend and bond between two nations were cemented forever.
Now, Gallipoli is poised to be the setting of a new Anzac legend with plans well advanced to hold a rugby league Test match between the Kangaroos and Kiwis in Turkey in 2015.
It will mark the centenary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops on the iconic peninsula during the First World War.

"What happens in rugby union? A player takes the ball, moves forward a little and gets tackled. A whole load of players then roll about on the ground. Pheep! The referee gives a penalty." - Simon Barnes

They better get in quick, because now the idea has been flagged up, union and fumbleball will try to get in on the act as well, and the speed at which International Rugby League moves they will probably be there before us.

Officials from the three governing bodies have kept the idea a closely guarded secret for so long because they did not want to alert the Australian Rugby Union.

As to whether it's a good idea, the poll on that page suggests a fairly even divide of opinion with the 'yes it's a good idea' group having a small lead.

Thats my point, the cats out the bag now and i would bet as we talk union are thinking of ideas to stage a game there themselves, and to undermine Rugby League at the same time.

Brilliant idea, Ill be there!
I can see rah rah trying to hijack it or piggy back on it though.
Just have to see how it plays out. But it highlights how the Anzac Test has a massive potential and deserves the limelight.
