Two things spring to mind...
Did The Sun play straight and catch a cheat? Or just lead a silly gullible man by the nose into a sting type operation, quoting him out of context and enticing him to place a bet just to prove it could be done?
And, I wonder what the odds were on Hornets turning over Donny away given the league positions at the time?

Sorry PD, but there's no excuse about being led into it. It's just a shame that he'll probably pay for Long and his mate Gleeson??? having done it before. Just consider how the Donny fans must have felt knowing one of their own was cheering on the opposition.

disagree Puggie. I know I do so just as a fan, but theres been the odd time where I've stuck money on Dale's opponents, and I chucked a bit of cash on the Aussies in the Ashes this past winter, but thats never led to cheering on the opposition, more softening the blow. This lad's been stupid and deserves punishment in line with Long and Gleeson, but he must not be made a scapegoat and wrongly tarnished as a someone who has thrown matches unless there is damning evidence. Making a quick buck using inside info is wrong but its not cheating anyone cept the bookies.

IMO, for what it's worth, I doubt that he has actually thrown any games. News papers are very careful about what they print, and what they don't print, the Sun don't explicitly say he has thrown games and that is a telling point. They only talk about how games could be thrown, and any one could work that out.
It does look like he has bet on a rugby, which breaches thE RFL rules and he should be punished whether he was goaded into it or not.
