A report in the League Express today says that Hornets are hoping to set up a reserve team for next season this wold give all players a game every week and make Stanky's job a lot easier when he has to bring players in to cover.
Cost is obviously the biggest hurdle but it says the club is looking for sponsorship to help with finances.

No doubt some of the Town Team lads would hope to be considered, but the majority would come from elsewhere hoping to catch the eye of coaches that wouldn't normally see their abilities? Hornets ran a pretty good Under 23's/Reserve side 3 or 4 years ago for a couple of seasons. Hornets current player, Danny Samuel, was one of the lads from that side who went on to further his career with several clubs including Huddersfield, Wakefield, Caracssonne and Batley before re-signing for Hornets at the start of the 2010 season.

Interesting !, I would have thought not only Finance but Venue for Matches etc, would have to be considered !

If Mayfield Sports Centre was too expensive for the reserves, or it wasn't available for some other reason, I suppose other venues could be suitable.
Hopwood Hall? Other than the fact that they are not located in the borough would St' Annes or Waterhead or Saddleworth be suitable?
I suspect they'd welcome the extra income, not just from pitch/facilities rental but also the bar/food reciepts. Just a thought.

Whitebank at Oldham !
Might be the econimic answere GB, if the purpose of the reserve team is to keep a pool of players match fit and keep the interest of some of the non regulars players then so be it. Especially if Mayfield priced them selfs out of the running.
Be a shame to leave the borough tho' so maybe Hopwood Hall would be an option?
In fact if they were to play out side the borough why not at The Manchester Storm, there's already mild interest in the area and some very good facilities, could work to both teams interests, something the RFL will take notice off when they do restructure the Championships. Maybe The League for All Development Officer could put a word in
Interesting times.

Grounds used for the Reserve Grade in the past for home games;
Spotland Stadium
Mayfield Sports Centre
Littleborough Rugby Union
Rochdale Rugby Union
Oldham Rugby Union
Blackburn Rugby Union
The Anchor Ground Darwen FC
Hopwood Hall
Radcliffe Borough
Bacup Borough
Hilton Park Leigh
Watersheddings Oldham
Saddleworth Rugby league
Buile Hill High School Salford
The Willows
Huddersfield Rugby Union
So I suppose you could say it’s been a slight problem finding a venue in the past. We have also used the opponents ground as the venue for the home fixtures in the past too e.g. Borough Park Blackpool and Squires Gate Lane Blackpool.

Don't you all think you're putting the cart before the horse here?
There's a lot of stuff to do like getting the finances, attracting a squad, getting them in shape and joining a league before we need to bother with where they'll play. I would think that Mayfield would be the best option, it's in the borough, they've got all the facilities and they are businessmen who know they'll make a bit out of rent, bars and food.
That's when everything else is finished.

Was'nt the whole point of you bringing the fact to people attention of Hornets showing interest in running a Reserve Grade Team so then people could debate the various merits / possibities of the venture? Whats this cart and horse thing your new mode of transport.
The last season Hornets ran a reserve team it cost 27k as most matches were won hence, winning pay.

I think the list above shows just how many venues are available, I suppose the real problem is financing the team.

You started a discussion point and now your criticising people for posting on the subject
It would be great to have a reserve/U 23s team again its just the obvious hurdle that everyone has mentioned finance - does anyone know if there is any funding from the RFL available if you have an U23s team?

To gain admission into the restructure of the Championship certain criteria have to be met for Bigger slice of the Funding from the RFL !, one of the Criteria is a Reserve/U23 side !

Yes, they are Businessmen who hopefully will be running 3 Open Age Teams, 7/8 Youth Teams, plus having a Male and ladies Football Teams !
