Featherstone 0 Saints 70
Barrows game against Wigan (the top SL side)in comparison was a far better result

I think Saints were without 11 regulars.

We faired a lot better at Wigan and also away at Saints last season when we put in a fine display in the 32-12 defeat (which flattered Saints in the end).

I honestly don't think that Fev and Leigh are any better than us this season. OK, they both got a much better start, but come the playoffs, I would back our chances against anyone.

All dont forget that Wigan put 56 point into Quins the week after we played them........And Wigan only scored 52 against Barrow, and if backhouse's 2 tries had been awarded we would have scored more points thanQuins did!

Difficult to compare results, good or bad. St Helens might have had 11 regulars out but we also had 5 out who would have started and our reserves aren't international standard unlike some of the Saints players. Last season we scored more points at Warrington than any SL team but that didn't make us any better than the other teams who played there.
For 40 minutes we competed against Saints and only trailed 18-0 so the end result was a big disappointment.

As for Fev and Leigh not being better than Barrow, fair point really. The league is beginning to take shape and once Fax start to perform then the usual suspects will be there or there abouts at the end of the season when it comes to the play offs.
Relegation (if it happens) looks like two from Dewsbury, Hunslet and York, the latter two probably being the favourites.

You can't work out your league placing by comparing yourselves to a heavy Fev defeat; You beat Cas last season but you didn't finish at the top of the championship; I wouldn't try to write off Fev or Leigh just yet; Barrow are a top side and it looks like you are improving; Fev also had key players missing at Saints and lets not forget even with injuries Saints still field top internationals; It was a shameful second half performance by Fev but hey it happens its sport;

Looking at the 1st half of tonights game, I think you are way off the mark! Leigh are so so much better than Widnes this season and have caned Widnes twice! Absolutely tonked em! They are deservedly top and light years better than Barrow are this season. I know it's not what you want to hear/read, and it is only my perception, but hey ho. I suppose we'll know one way or t'other for sure in a couple of months!

one bad result and barrow are a poor side again have people forgotten that barrow were pipped by leigh home and away and also had a very good result away at halifax.fair enough the team lacks consistency but i do believe the players are more than good enough to make a grand final, as long as nigel wright is at the helm he will eventually get the team performing with consistency week in week out.lets just see how the team responds to that defeat in their next outing which i believe is toulouse at home i can see barrow running riot.

Fozzy mate, I didn't say Barrow were a bad side "again" or otherwise. SRC posted that he honestley didn't that Fev and Leigh were any better than Barrow.
Leigh haven't lost a game and have hammered Widnes making them look daft.
Fev have only lost to Leigh (who really are a good side this year) on a day we were hammered with injuries. We got some bodies back and put Barrow to the sword at Post Office Road.
I have seen Barrow a few times and oft enjoy watching them in West Yorks when Fev haven't got a game. On the evidence of those games, and what I saw in the pub last night, Barrow are nowhere near Leigh.

I appreciate you feeling the need to defend your team Fozzy, I suppose I would do the same. But from what I've seen mate, your making up the numbers at best this term. Too many passengers, not enough direction and a woeful defence! Of curse things could tighten up bbut I'm feeling you've already lost too much ground to be a threat this term.
And while your coach lives and works in London, I personally hold the belief that Barrow will consistently remain inconsistant.

Like I said, I've been wrong afoore.... In a couple of months or so we'll know either way!

Having watched all three teams now, Leigh, Fev and Barrow I would say that Barrow are miles behind Leigh at the moment. Not only are they winning, they are winning well. There is still a long way to go though in this league and to be fair to Barrow they were without Catic last night who adds real aggression and smart forward play.
As for your comment about only losing to Leigh... you also lost to us in the NRC!!!! (you didn't use the words 'in the league') and don't forget it.

in terms of our games against Leigh.. I wouldn't use that as a benchmark for how we are playing now. We were absolutely dump back then losing to Batley and Hunslet. If we were playing like that now then Barrow would have posted 50 on us last night. Likewise, if we were playing as we are now, back then the games would have been far closer. I'm not saying we would have won but the margin would have been 10 - 15 points maybe less rather than the 30 they were.

with the RFL having pledged to conditionally award a licence to a Championship club, it would be a surprise if they do not succeed.

 Fair do's - and I accept that! We aren't the team of last year - yet! But still second and still all to play for.
We can do all the arguing as to the final placings, I guess we'll know for sure soon enough!
It's to be hopes that all Widnes's dual reg players aren't recalled or that roll your on might stall pretty quickly!

It'll come out in wash right enough!

I think Fev and Leigh will contest the GF this year with Leigh to run out eventual winners.
I think we happened just to catch you on a particularly rainy, windy and freezing cold night and I'm not all that confident the next time we play you.

As for the DR's... if they were recalled many of us Widnes fans would be made up. It's annoying that we have Grant Gore, Chris Lunt and Dave Houghton all kicking their heels waiting for their chance. When they've played in the 1st team this year they have shown up just as well as the Wigan lads. With FT training next year these lads will be future stars.

Best of luck for the rest of the season.

Barrow had a poor start to the season and the reason was clear, once Schofeild left the scene and Nigel Wright started to put some structure and gained the players respect then there confidence grew fast,
We have seen 4 straight wins under Nigel and the first loss (apart from Wigan)was when he could not make it to the game.
