The Aussie government are going to ban the practice of live betting odds being read out during sports events on TV, and in grounds. No before time too. At least we won't have to listen to Ray Warren giving us the latest odds followed by the advice to 'gamble responsibly'. Interesting the ban doesn't include Horse Racing. If they banned it in racing, there'd be nothing to show!!!

Quite right - people likely to bet will bet. They don't need any encouragement.
It doesn't sound right when these the commentator brings in betting. There's enough of them talking on the mikes to reflect how the game is going without reflecting the current odds.

That 'bet responsibly' phrase trotted out is cringeworthy too.
If you have to say it shows there's some negatives involved in the process, so why mention it in the first place?
I guess there's some income to the station coming from the betting mentions.

That's what it all boils down to though - money. One thing I've noticed about Australian TV and Radio is that anything that can be sponsored is. It doesn't matter what company it is - so long as they pay good money for the mentions. Anyone for a Keno Replay?

Listening to a 2GB commentary is like listening to a long ad break. Nearly every part of the commentary is sponsored - reading the score out, the man on the touchlines, even the description of the TV replays!!!

Premier Sports TV is worth the money. I'd recommend it.
As for the radio...

At least 2GB give some coverage. Some of their ads are a laugh!

Seemed odd today having two games back to back from Suncorp Stadium.
Must have been so for the speccies there.
34,000+ turned up.
The far side thinned out by the middle of the second half of the second game when the result was no longer in question.

Now who'll sponsor me? Think I'll try asking Microsoft first ...

Agree on Premier Sports - fantastic value for money. Haven't had to listen to 2GB since Premier started.

I don't understand the logic behind having a double header in Brisbane just 2 days after 52,000 turned up for an Origin clash. But, would the combined crowd have been 34,000 if the games were played back in Sydney?
