Hi,

Some of you may be aware that The Junction Inn on 'the hill' (Hillstores) has recently re-opened, under new management. Two of us have taken the pub on and we are both fans of Roughyeds. Some of the rugby related initiatives that we are undertaking are as follows:

  • Free return minibus to all Roughyeds home games and occasional very local away games (Rochdale this season)
  • All rugby league games on Sky and terrestrial TV to be shown in the pub (plus NRL on Premier Sports from August), even when there is a clash with other sports (we have a multiscreen facility to allow this)
  • Roughyeds memorabilia on the wall

The first free minibus will run for the South Wales home game on Sunday 12th June, 3pm kick off. It will depart The Junction at 2.15pm, returning 10 minutes after full time. If anybody would like to travel on it please let us know asap either by calling in to the pub, by email to junctioninn@hotmail.co.uk or simply by posting below.

There will be absolutley no charge for use of the bus for any game, all we ask is that users have a drink with us before and/or after the game, or even one day during the preceeding week if you're pushed for time on a matchday.

If there is enough demand, and providing the club have no objections, we will also look at running a bus to more distant away games, although we would probably have to make a charge for this in order to cover some of the cost.

Once we are more established as a business we also intend to support the Roughyeds by way of some form of sponsorship and we are meeting the club's office manager Janet Yewdale in a few days time to discuss how else we might be able to lend our support to the club.

The memorabilia is already on the wall, it is the property of Rugby Oldham, with whom we have also had an informal chat about how we can help them, and features a selection of team photos from the early 50s through to the 2009 squad. We think it looks really well and we place on record our thanks to Rugby Oldham for allowing us to display it.

We hope that some of you will get an opportunity to call in and have a look soon, perhaps we might even see one or two for the televised St Helens v Leeds game tonight (8pm kick off).

It might also interest some of you to know that we are both real ale enthusiasts and Dobcross bitter will be available as of Saturday, alongside the usual selction of products.

Thanks for reading and we hope to see some of you soon.

Thank you. Our personal allegiance is with Roughyeds, but all rugby league games will be shown and all rugby league fans are welcome. I look forward to serving you in the near future...

Thanks. We had a few fans call in on their way back from Doncaster today. Was nice to see them browsing the old team photos and watching the Huddersfield v Castleford game.

Shame about today's result, let's hope for an upturn in fortunes next week. If we win then we're going to claim it was all down to our inaugral minibus!

Speaking of which, if anyone wants to travel on it please let us know either on here, in person at the pub or by email to junctioninn@hotmail.co.uk just so we can make sure the correct numbers are catered for. As mentioned previously there is no charge.

Hope to see some of you next Sunday.

A quick reminder to anyone who fancies our free return minibus to this Sunday's home game to please let us know asap either on here, by email to junctioninn@hotmail.co.uk or in person at the pub.

Also a few new ORLFC related things to tell you all about.

Reserve games - We have had a couple of supporters ask about extending the free return transport offer to home reserve games which we are more than happy to do starting with the Sheffield game on Saturday 18th June, departing 2pm for 2.30pm kick off. If anyone fancies it let us know via the usual channels.

Club Lottery - You will soon be able to join and pay for the club lottery at the bar. We will post on here as soon as that is up and running.

Match Sponsorship - As of next season the pub management will foot the bill for at least one matchday sponsorship package of some kind and we will be inviting a number supporters to accompany us free of charge. However, as a fledgling business we will not quite be in a position to foot the whole of such a bill ourselves before this season is out. None the less, we are keen to start supporting the club before then if we can, so we are asking whether there are any supporters that would like to contribute £25 to the cost in order to join us for the final game of this season against South Wales on Sunday 21st August, 3pm kick off, when we would have use of the sponsors suite and a complimentary buffet. Anybody joining us this time will of course be a nailed on certainty for the freebie next season. As ever, free return transport from The Junction will be provided but you don't have to make use of that in order to join us in the sponsors suite. Anyone interested please let us know via the usual methods.

Challenge Cup Final Trip (Sat 27th Aug) - The club are running a day trip departing 8am and returning after the game priced at £50 inclusive of match ticket, which I'm reliably informed are good seats. You can reserve your place at The Junction by payment of a £25 deposit, the balance being due by 5pm on Friday 12th August. If enough people want to use the Junction as a pick up/drop off point then the club will have the coach do so and we'll sort out some free breakfast as well as having some free food ready for when we return.

Memorabilia - We now have a really good arial photo of the old ground at Watersheddings which will be going on the memorabilia wall asap

Away games - We are definitely going to try to extend the number of away games we run transport to. At present it's just Rochdale, which will be free as per home games, but we are really keen to do more if we can and we have the club's blessing to do so. We don't mind absorbing a moderate loss on these trips, we just want to support the team and provide a service for supporters, but obviously we will have to charge something in order that the losses don't become too damaging. We will post projected prices depending on numbers for the Gateshead game on here asap and see whether there is enough interest.

There will probably be more things to let you know about in the next day or two. Details will of course appear here.

The Junction Inn is now sponsoring recent signings Mark McCully and Bruce Johnson till the end of the season. Woohoo!

We've also added scholarship team home games to our free return bus offering.

Is the Junction Inn the one up the road coming away from the Mumps area? I used to go to that pub years ago to listen to the band he had on. Superb band with a blind guitarist who always said at the start of the set, "If the music's too loud let me know and I'll turn it up a bit."

Not sure about the blind guitarist but it is the pub on the way up to the old watersheddings groung at the junction of oldham road and rippponden road hence the name "Junction Inn"

Sounds like you might be on about the right one.

Tank is right about the exact location, although Huddersfield Road is the name of one of the roads that form the junction rather than Oldham Road.

Not sure about the blind guitarist though. If that was here it was before we took over.

Actually, now I think back I think the pub I'm thinking of is the Boundary?!?!? Near the Mumps roundabout turn left at the car showrooms and the road to Newhey?!?!?

Anyway, all the best for the pub, it's not the easiest of businesses to start right now but get a few dozen boozy rugby fans in and it'll help.

Ah yes, The Boundary on Shaw Road, had one or two good nights in there myself. It's closed now sadly, a sign of the times and bares out the point you made above.

As you rightly suggest, it would be fantastic to become a pub of choice for rugby league fans. It'd be very much a labour of love working in that kind of environment!

Thanks for the words of encouragement, they are much appreciated and we hope to be able to welcome you for a pint or two next time the Hornets are in town.
