The club is currently operating to the maximum amount available under the
current salary cap rules. Club are able to spend 40% of their income on
players and we set our budgets to meet this figure at the start of the
season. Further signings may result in us exceeding this figure, especially
if there are guarenteed payments to be made and not just win/loss money.
This year is the most we have ever spent on players, and we are doing the
best we can to support the coach, but without additional income our hands
are tied.

As a result of this we are in the process of establishing a Squad Builder
Fund that will enable supporters to donate money that will be specifically
used for player recruitment/retention. It is important to state that any
money donated should not be at the expense of current payments to the club,
such as a Season Ticket/Vice President package or a Lancealotto subscription.
Further information will follow as soon as there are any developments and
we expect the Squad Builder Fund to be in place by the end of the month.

from things that are being said , we are getting the impression that Dave doesnt have much of a say on squad matters , surely as coach he would have a better idea on who we need & who we dont to take the club forward , i understand there are limitations on what the club has to spend but we need to strenghthen to have any chance of staying in this league , if this happens then surely finances will become better as we are playing a better standard of club plus more T V exposure & a bigger slice of the financial pie , also whatever happened to our P R Man Simon Moat ? is he still employed by the club , if so why is he not out there trying to attract more buisneses to invest in the club , there are some large house building companies based in York , isnt it time some put a bit back into the cities pro sport clubs, its ok asking fans to dip in their pockets but we are not bottomless pits , i know i work damned hard for my wage , most weeks 6 or 7 days an still dont have that much spare to be giving to the club , i think as a management more avenues need to be explored with buisness , other clubs in smaller places than York seem to do it , so why cant we?

Disagree with most of that.

There's no ''surely'' about it regarding if we strengthen etc, its all a risk,
I'm pleased JG & Co don't take risks that could put our club on the brink.

New players - Thacks & Fordy are recent new players & won't have come cheap.

Building firms - all been said before, pretty sure whoever puts the work
in regarding Sponsership will have approached all the names people keep
repeating on here.

DW not having a say - who signed or re-signed this years squad?
A squad which includes quite a few lads who Dave has worked with before & wanted
at the club.

Relegation - will there be any - everything I have read about a new league
structure says it will commence in the 2012 season. Know there's nothing
definate yet, but got the impression that it will happen.

Think the best thing on this one as a fan is to keep our thoughts to ourselves.
What EVER we say and which side we maybe on is only gonna fuel the fire unfortunately.
It's hard when there is so many "rumours" doing the rounds, I've heard 5 or 6 storys already.....best just to keep well away.

I do not know who you mean when 'quite a few lads who Dave has worked with before and wanted'.
Luke Branighan and Dylan Nash were out of the clubs price range and that was accepted by Dave.
The 3 lads who played for Gateshead Thunder Matty Baron he has coached before.Rhys Clarke he took into the Under 18's and gave him a contract before losing his job.Matt Garside he saw playing in a University side alongside Scott but had never had the opportunity to coach him.

In last weeks York and Proud magazine Dave writes as follows - '' Where we should be bringing players in and out of games to learn to play at this level, players such as Clarke,Garside,Sutton,Straughier,we are having to play them week in and out putting a lot of pressure on them ''

Matty Garside has been playing throughout the off season on International duty against Australians.

The BBC website regarding the signing of Tom Bush only has quotes from Ian Wilson.

The signing of Ryan Esders has this report without any mention of Dave Woods

I know Massey is a good prop but you can see the Club's predicament with Waller, Jones and Howard all approaching fitness/readiness to play.
It's good to win at home, but it's better to win away!

Paul - pretty sure Dave Sutton worked with Woodsy at St Helens, but fair points.
The point I was making is that the squad is Dave's - not a left over squad from JR.

Me & quite a few on here said before we played our 1st game we needed 2 more experienced
players in the mix, money makes them very difficult to get, but maybe we got
the balance of the squad wrong pre-season.

Remember a lot of talk about our togetherness & fitness will see us ok, only missed 1 game
this season and personally don't believe we are any fitter than any other team in our league
(& please don't forget Good Friday !!).

Anybody interested in this part of the statement? Squadbuilders seem to work at other clubs, Batley for instance, would enough Knights fans contribute to make it worthwhile?

Once it is confirmed that Dave Woods is happy at the club and is staying long term, then I would be happy to contribute.
It should have been in existence a long time ago.

Read the bottom of this from our Fax Blog. I am in the Cashfax Lottery and have had a few wins to be fair, Only small ones but its only £1 per week. As you can see this brings the club £200k a year which i am sure you will agree is a emmense amount of money and has beeen going years for Fax now.

As for someone mentioning Luke Branighan earlier in the thread, we operated on a dispensation of £400k last year, we are now like everyone else on £300k salary cap and we couldn't afford what he wanted so he went home.

Good luck with the rest of the season.
