Anyone on here go camping? And if so where's good? Lakes?
I'm thinking about it but have never camped out for donkeys years. Where would you find a good site like in that Carry On film?

I love it, just don't manage to get away as often as we'd like due to work commitments at the moment. It's the best way of enjoying our wonderful countryside if you ask me.
As for places to stay, there is a huge choice and variety. Personally we prefer the smaller sites with limited facilities. I find the larger, well equipped sites a bit too regimentlal. Check out the Camping & Caravaning club web site, they have a very good site finder. One of our favourite sites is at Malam Cove, easy to get to from most of the main RL population and a great locating even if Malcom the owner is a bit strange (it would appear he NEVER throws ANYTHING away, ever).
Give camping a go, I'm sure you won't regret it.

I go to Malham fairly regularly anyway so may well give that a bash. It's only down the road too.

Is that the one on the way to Goredale Scar or the one in the village - by the sound of the owner it's the Goredale one.
As I said in another thread we have just bought a VW T2 Bay 1976 camper so will be pottering about the countryside in that.

Aye, that's the one, Gordale Scar. Bit basic but a cracking location. Couple of decent pubs in Malam village as well, they'll do you a carry out of draught ale in a carton to take back to the tent as well.Is that the one on the way to Goredale Scar or the one in the village - by the sound of the owner it's the Goredale one.

Codale and Stickle Tarn are two cracking 'wild' campsites in the Lakes.

How wild?
It's not too wild. Civilisation is an hour or less from both locations:
Codale is about an hours walk up the main track from Grasmere. Nice spot next to the Tarn so plenty of access to water. I'd take purifying tabs for water. Guestimating it's at about 400-450m.
Stickle is a bit further up that track at the foot of the Langdale Pikes and is spectacular. You can also access it from Old Dungeoness in the Langdale Valley; takes about 30/45mins. Again, loads of access to water. Guestimating it's about 500-550m.
I much prefer camping wild compared to campsites. There are loads of good spots scattered all over the Lakes. Stayed in some pretty remote places on trips in the Pyrenees, Alps, Sweden, Kilimanjaro etc but as long as you have access to water, you are fine really. Unless you are desperate for some booze of course!!

Er right, how can I put this? Errhmmm, here goes then. If you were to wake up with your trousers round your ankles, grass stains on your knees and a sore rear end, would you tell your better half?Anyone on here go camping? And if so where's good? Lakes?

I loves me camping me, although the year is almost half over and I haven't been camping yet. We prefer smaller campsites with no children and a relaxed attitude where they don't mind a bit of noice, you can have beer, an open fire and chat with the other campers. The North-West coast of Wales has some excellent camping locations, Shell Island and Abersoch are favourites. I don't really know the lakes very well but we've been to Conniston a few times and had a cracking time.

We stayed there last year, had a great time, was a fair few kids there mind during our stay. I liked the self segregation, noisey and/or with kids, turn left and head for the sanddunes, quiet, turn right and head for the small harbour!
A stressful day comes to an end on the beach near the dunes on shell island;

There's an app called "Campsites" certainly on the iPhone and no doubt on other platforms that offers some of the most reliable reviews and covers a decent range of sites in the UK.
If your in the Lakes, I've always enjoyed the campsites in the Langdale valley, would certainly offer a gentle and civilised introdution. A bit of the beaten track there's a farm in Seathwaite that offers basic, but adequate facilities, in a cracking location were you can walk out and take in the Old Man of Coniston should you wish and once done with the walking there's a cracking pub in walking distance.

Where would you find a good site like in that Carry On film?
Forget "Carry On", ponder about "Deliverance", "Arachnophobia" and "Attack of the Killer Bees".
I've not been camping for years, but I wouldn't want to take kids or women anywhere without showers and a building that you can sit in when it's chucking it down. Otherwise, everything is your fault.
Also, you do need camp beds; not many people can sleep properly on the ground. I used to use an airbed pumped up with a 12v car pump.
