The ash which has affected us in Europe twice in the last couple of years has affected NRL to a small degree.
Flights into Melbourne were cancelled on Monday so some of the refereeing officials had to make alternative travel arrangements. they made it though.
The Toyota Cup game was postponed though as the Roosters U21 team weren't able to fly in.
Tigers were stranded in New Zealand as their return flight was cancelled due to the ash.

Jacob Lilleyman (18th man) was unable to join the Maroons' squad after playing for the Warriors on Sunday

Different ash mate. Yours was from Iceland. Ours from Chile.
Jacob Lillyman and Robbie Farah have gone OK. (Air NZ)
The problem with the Tigers was that they booked on Qantas. Qantas and their cheap sub Jetstar cancelled. All Air new Zealand flights went as they flew under or around the cloud. Can understand Qantas reluctance though as they have a number of problems with their airplanes lately having to turn back etc.

Yes I know it's not the same actual ash. I should have been more specific and said similar ash i.e. ash from a different volcano but of the same nature. Posted Image
In the recent ash problem here the airlines were less panicky than the first time. They were less prone to blanket flight bans and re-started flights more promptly.
They monitored the ash more quickly and effectively.

They should have all flown Air New Zealand.

Despite the additional cost they decided to fly lower (under the ash cloud) despite it costing more. Cant recall the UK airlines having this option when the Iceland one erupted.
