Despite the full cap being available? Not spending the cap when we could be is REAPING what we sow

While we still have xx amount still to spend on the salary cap it's worth mentioning that six other Super League aren't spending the full cap.

Plus you have to remember that we were heavily restricted as to who we could sign at the beginning of the year due to the sorry nature of the Orford situation.

Signings like this really show the level of ambition of Bradford these days, They and Potter seem to have settled for being a mediocre team just fighing it out for a top 8 place.
Compare this list to say the overseas players at Saints:-
Hohia - NZ International
Meli - NZ International
Puletua - NZ International
Perry - Aus International
Laffranchi - Aus International
Flannery - Origin player

No comparison !

OK so occasionally there's a really good one like Hape & Vainikolo were, but when they are filling their team with players who haven't made it in the NRL then questions really need to be asked.

How old are those players? We've signed a young, (hopefully) hungry player. Not a player approaching the twilight of his career.

Unfortunately we don't have the benefit of a never ending supply of sugar from the bowl that daddy fills like Warrington, Huddersfield and Wigan have so we have to be careful with the limited amount of money we have available to spend on players.

Yeah, that pesky cap...

If he's half as good as the previous no-name Newcastle centre to make his way to SL then you'll have a bargain. Carmont has in my view been Wigan's best value import despite not having an international pedigree for a major nation.

Perhaps leaving one or two threads open for sensible debate rather than degenerating into another scene from a playground slapstick might be a good idea - your credibility is beginning to look shot to pieces. Posted ImagePosted Image

Firstly this isn't a popularity contest on the forum Posted Image

It was a response to one of your own fans having a dig at the Sugar Daddy clubs

Bradford Bulls have been SL Champions, WCC Champions and Won CC which you've all enjoyed.... my little club in MY LIFE time have won the CC, Premiership Final 86 and a Regal Trophy
only 8 years ago we had a debt of over 4Million pounds

the club has been turned around and I'm proud of them.... One day we may win a big prize. Maybe!!

I suggest with people like Gledhill being a touch jealous ( I don't why after all the success you've had) people bite and give a response that others don't like............ AGAIN Bradford have had more success in a short space of time..... Which some clubs will never see!!!

Back on to the Pledge V's Salary cap.................. This must have an impact on the amount of money you can offer players to come to Bradford!!!!

10,000 (Pledge) x £60 = £600,000 + walk ups

6,000 (to avoid an argument) x 13 Home Games = 78,000 x £14 (taken as an average price) = £1,092,000

+ Walk ups

This makes a difference of £492,000........

One thing I'd like to add you may have sold more than the 6,000 tickets last year so apology if it was more.

Unless I'm really missing the point.... if so, can someone explain and I'll put a personnel SORRY message on the board and drop the subject 100%

Thanks In Advance

A double edged sword ST; when those 'occasional' good ones, Hape and Vainikolo came over, they weren't internationals either and went onto become internationals because of the careers they had at the Bulls.

I think you're right on Hape, but I'm sure Vainikolo had played for the Kiwis while still in the NRL. He still had a hell of a lot to learn, which he did at Bradford, so the overall point stands.

Ah Van has played for the Junior Kiwis, but has not yet got a full cap.

Indeed. Before the RWC qualifiers, most (if not all of us) on here would have said "George who?" He's certainly been exceptional value for money.

I watched Lulia play for the Cooks a couple of years back, and he's a decent player. That said, I'm not convinced he's the sort of guy our clubs should be looking to sign. I'd rather it was top of the pops or nothing tbh.

A double edged sword ST; when those 'occasional' good ones, Hape and Vainikolo came over, they weren't internationals either and went onto become internationals because of the careers they had at the Bulls.

Lulia is a Cook Island international and so effectively it is a non-starter of an argument as to whether he could have an amazing stint in SL and force himself into the reckonning for Aus (although we all know the Green n Golds record on 'converting' players, but that's another thread). Realistically, given the competition he has for places in the backs at Aussie test level and the fact he is coming in to our competition completely unheralded, common sense tells us he wouldn't make it anyway but just because he hasn't played at that level does that preclude him from having the potential to become a very good SL player?

The jury is out and I accept your point; on paper, Lulia isn't in the same class as some of those you mention but the game isn't played on paper and as a Bradford fan, I have to give the lad a chance because of what I have seen this club do with exactly this type of player in the past. Time will tell if that faith is justified or not.

On the flip side, I would also suggest that a couple of the players on your list haven't necessarily proved up to their billing based on the Saints' fans opinions of them but hey, they are internationals so I guess the club must have it right and the Saints fans wrong?

oh yes he was an international!!

For a start Bradford have never sold more than 5k full price season tickets since superleague started. so to suggest we sold 6k last year is wrong. 4k would be more realistic. Also a significant proportion this years season tickets werent £60 ones. £99 was starting point for stand and its been fuller than it has been for years. The difference in income become the reduced price season tickets and the full price ones is more than made up by the increased revenue from merchandise and food/drink sales in the ground. We sold out of both shirt in mid january and had to repeat order. you can 2nd guess the figures all you want but facts will come out when the accounts come out next year. And when its compared to figures that are due to come out in next couple of months for last year it will show why bradford had to try something new.

Jeez reading some of the replies on this thread is depressing. We've signed a young lad from an NRL team that has a decent record. No one on here really knows anything about him yet everyone seems to have an opinion.

Never heard of him = ######
Aus International = coming for a pension = ######

Over the years we've seen top Aus internationals absolutely bomb and we've seen unknowns carve up the comp. Signing young hungry players can never be a bad intention.

He's playing in the early NRL tv game tomorrow so it'll give us all a good chance to see what he can do with ball in hand.

I've deleted the biggest part of the post, mainly because it is completely inaccurate. The Bulls have sold over 11,000 season tickets and many at more than the base price of £60. What I would say though is, I am more than willing to reply to posts such as this, which at least ask a question worthy of a response rather than just sticking a load of smileys after a daft response to an over-excited poster.

oh yes he was an international!!

Point accepted, although I think my wider point is valid. Bradford have signed many a player with a point to prove, Vainikolo included, who would not have had the career they have had but for proving themselves at Odsal and certainly if they read any of the hyperbole posted on here - that goes for other players at other teams too.

Well if all the above is true............ God help you come 2015!!!!

Returning to the default position.

Read in a national newspaper, he's been sacked by 2 different clubs, for drink related problems.

Well it must be true then, cannot find anything from what i've read that supports this although, if it's true, he's not the first.

The point I made earlier stands for me. Bradford have a better than average record of bringing players like this up to their full potential and, once again, I have to keep the faith given that record. The Bulls have brought many an unheralded player over to these shores who have gone on to be superstars of SL and if Lulia goes onto be another, fantastic. If not, we still have players within that will make the grade eventually but then the problem will be that they weren't born in Bradford I suppose - damned if you do, damned if youn don't.
