This is your chance to choose the best announcer -- not commentator or analyst -- in the world.

As a commentator myself albeit on the radio and not tv I can honestly say that I get a lot of my inspiration from the legend that is Ray Warren.

No contest. The bloke is brilliant because he knows what he's on about.Never even mentions anything about a mortgage, hire purchase, who's running exibition at George Hotel(ie his mate Sammy).took his eye of the ball for a second,he's stayed on the island and the best ever by Bill Arthur last Thursday just before Fev and Fax came out for the second half, and i quote,'This game is evenly boiled',absolutely brilliant.

Ray Warren is probably the best caller of any sport.

as an aside there's a brillianr radio caller on Radio Leeds called Dave Fletcher, who'd be great on the box.

Ray Warren by a mile! The best brit for me was keith macklin. The brits though in general are poor and often dont help the audience to understand the game or whats occured. Sky lot seem intent on using stupid cliches and not needed remarks. BBC often cant even get the players names right let alone call plays. The aussies use top former players like johns daley and fittler which helpto get a players understanding.

Rod Studd. Well, he's got the best name anyway. Straight out of 'Boogie Nights'.
What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

Caller? Announcer? Commentator? What's the difference?

I'd call all those on the list 'commentators'. 'Caller' is more for the radio. I don't think 'announcer' gets used much in sport.

Ray Warren is excellent and the best commentator of any 'fast' sport that I can think of (there are arguably better in the cricket, but that might be because they get much more time to talk), but so too is Dave Woods.

I imagine if DW got enough games (I'm talking telly here) he'd comfortably be the match of Warren.

Definitely Ray Warren, however it's the combination of Rabs as caller, in combo with Stirlo's and Gus' coherent analysis, that really shows up Sky's poor effort. I don't so much blame Hemmings, whose the caller, it's more Stevo's "expert" blatherings that wind me up.
All that time in Sydney just washed over him apparently. I think he should be sent to the knackers yard - saw him a few years ago in to Stoop bar and he looked ancient. He's past it.
Why don't they make more use of Carney?

I must admit to not being a massive fan of the Aussie commentators, although I do like some of the pre and post match presentation that they have over there.

I've no doubts that if Warren commentated over here, fans would rip him accusing him of incompetence and bias against their team!

I used to like the late Tim Healy,he used to commentate on radio Leeds in the 70s 80s
but you and I weve been through that and this is not our fate.
So let us so let us not talk falsely now.

Yes. Regarding Ray Warren, the poor fellow has prostate cancer. He is probably going to have his prostate removed. Poor bastard, he deserves better luck at only 68 years old!

I hope that he can continue commentating soon after the operation.
