Ivan Cleary's off to the Panthers:-

Brian McClennan is interested in the Warriors job, with John Ackland and Tony Iro also in the frame:-

For what it's worth, I'm not convinced about Cleary. He's had a lot of time in Auckland and had limited success. If the Warriors can find the right coach they can really start to live up to their huge potential.

From the article it seems that Gould wasdead set on getting Cleary for Panthers.
I wonder what Kiwityke makes of this development.

The other news is that Matt Elliot is going to Chooks as assistant to Brian Smith a man who coached Elliot in his playing days.

And IIRC was assistant to Smith at Bradford back in 1995-96.

Bluey is my choice and the choice of most Warriors supporters. Ivan suggested that he would prefer it to be from within the club (John Ackland or Tony Iro). Maybe he was saying that to keep things sweet as he has to work with them for the rest of the season.
The talking point on Radio Sport talkback is whether Cleary should go to the Panthers now or at the end of the season. There are pluses both ways. If he stays the players he has worked with will give him a chance of making the play-offs again and maybe better ( ). If he leaves and the new coach takes over now, he will have half a season to get to know the players instead of starting from scratch next season.

Richie Barnett, a pundit whom I respect, favours Tony Iro as he is now assistant coach and knows all the players and the current set up.
