Wondered why Roosters weren't doing all that well this season?

While much has been said why Gould sacked Elliott with 10 rounds to go, at it's heart is a two-hour talk on football 12 days ago where Gould didn't understand a thing Elliott said.
To his credit, Gould wondered whether he was the problem. He questioned whether the game had gone past him, because Elliott looked quite clearly chuffed, and so later Gould asked one of the leading players to explain the team's basic strategy. "We have no f...... idea," the player said, and Elliott was gone.
That so reminds me of Paul Cullen. I'm pretty sure the Warrington players used to think the same thing about him when he was coach.
As for Brian Smith, I've never been sure about him. He's lauded as a master coach, yet he's never won so much as a prize in a raffle. Mind you, that article does somewhat overlook the whole Todd Carney situation, which must surely have had an affect on the side. And Mitchell Pearce is one of those players who has great potential, but rarely seems to progress.

Todd Carney is not half as effective as last season. just watched him in the Monday game v Raiders. He's trying hard but is largely unprotected and gets caught and smashed too often.
Roosters looked a sorry outfit this evening. They held on just about to half time but were then struggling to keep possession and increasingly desperate as the game wore on. Their tackling especially near their own line was just not effective enough with raiders players being able to wrestle through defending tacklers to get an arm free to plant the ball down for a try.
R17 and it looks like Roosters season hopes are over. Raiders on the up.

I think Anasta is a huge part of the problem, a player i deem massively overrated. He shouts a lot, complains to the referees a lot but doesnt achieve a great deal on the pitch. Ive watched several Roosters games this season and his overall contribution has been negative rather than positive. Maybe he's trying to hard, but whatever the reason he's been very poor, for a start he can stop kicking the ball dead from kick off, something thats becoming a bit of a habit.
