Hardly a surprise if true for either of them. Both will have been expecting to play the bulk of the season and yet have found themselves on the fringes whilst journeymen pros at the end of their careers play week in week out.(Martin Roden, Isherwood, Bentley etc)

Whitmore has been diabolical this year with his one and only good performance coming against Swinton away last month. Martin has outperformed on every occasion and deserves to play. I'd rather promote Mansfield next year and give him a proper chance in the first team. Whitmore is a talented player but his form doesn't merit a game.

Wood is slightly different. He had an excellent start but got progressively worse until his shocker against Hunslet Warriors. He's lost a lot of confidence through playing poorly and out of position. When you see how well Bravo played last week you wonder if Wood would be such a miss.

I'd like to see both fight for their place in the team as they do have talent but it wouldn't be a massive blow if they do leave.

Couldn't agree more. Also perhaps the club management can explain why a player attends training but is only told he will not be in the team that weekend by phone when he has returned home rather than being told to his face after the training session.

I think that anyone who has watched every match this season will appreciate the reason for 2 or 3 members of the squad, who started off the season expecting they would be the 'ever presents', no longer being in the starting line up. Sunday's match against Whitehaven surely proved the point, a good blend of youth and experience, total commitment and effort from the whole squad. So, if anyone is not prepared to play for their place then they don't fit into the requirements and there is no alternative but for them to leave the club.
