I suppose every man and his dog knows the answer to this question...........except me!
Whats happened to Wayne McHugh, with him and Damian Reid we had some good centres, with all due respect to our present centres?

I am happy with Dean Gorton in the centre. He gives 100% and is a skilful player. Gorton and Reid make a fine centre partnership. I agree that McHugh is also a very good player but Dean Gorton seems to have a better attitude.

I've got to agree with Pedro here, Gorton is every bit as good as McHugh and doesn't have the 'loose cannon' tag that seems to follow Wayne around with him. I think with Reid it was something to do with his personal life and if everything's now sorted and I presume Stanky will be happy with his explanations, then I'm happy. Reid is a blockbuster in the centres and I'm happy he's back.
Now we can count on Gorton again and Woody we should have a good run-in if the squad does itself justice.

Dont get me wrong Gorton is a decent player, but McHugh is without doubt the far better player. Mchugh and Reid with Saywell English and Bloomfield outside is a formidable backline.

So, it looks like no-one has the true answer to this question, just the usual speculations

In terms of ability to say that Gorton is as good as McHugh is a little short sighted, with all due respect to Gorton when has he ever been one of the top points scorers in the National Leagues? I knew you needed some glasses Puggy
Signing McHugh always had an element of gamble in it lets face it if he hadnt been kicked out by umpteen clubs the otherside of the pennines he would never have been back at Hornets on match money only - if it had paid off we would have had a match winner for as long as it lasted, as it turned out he proved good to his reputation and we have moved on - worth the gamble didnt particularly work and wasnt anybodys fault but his own
